Can You ID This Ignition Part?

This gizmo sits above the coil, has a white wire in and a white wire out that goes to the coil. No other wires.

Re: Can You ID This Ignition Part?

It's called a "connector". It allows 2 wires to plug into each other.

Looks kinda like one of the wires has seen better days.

Re: Can You ID This Ignition Part?

It's a connector. I think I've read someplace the service manual calls that location a tach filter. Although I've had these apart and haven't seen anything other than a connector.

Sure looks like it has something to do with high speed fan, those connectors often get melted. They were on my car and when I researched it that’s what I found.

It's a somewhat similar looking connector, but the small gauge white wire is the giveaway that it's in the tachometer circuit. The high speed blower relay has a much larger gauge red wire(connector C105 in this way too dark diagram)....

Re: Can You ID This Ignition Part?

Thanks Sofa, I appreciate the humor. Maybe I worded my question a little loosely.

Yes, a connector. Since it's in the coil circuit and only has one wire in and out I figured it must be more than just a connector. My first thought was an RFI filter, which were common on older can coils and attached to the (-) terminal of the coil.

It is a little rough on one end and I would like to replace it. Easier to find the part if I know what to call it.

Re: Can You ID This Ignition Part?

No really, just a connector.

You are right, there IS a noise filter in at least some of these cars; looks alot like an old ignition condenser from the Cro-Magnon days of points setups, except it has a wire coming out of each end. It's not impossible that such a thing would have had those same connectors on its leads. My 83 has one of those, not sure what cars/years did or didn't get it, or why.

Re: Can You ID This Ignition Part?

It is just the Connector for the Tachometer Signal.
