does running around with the ac compressor on all the time affect milage?

hey guys, I have never been satisfied with the milage my car gets. I usually get aroun 18-20 mpg. Most of my driving is highway, so I think it could be better. My car has just a stock LG4, I replace the cat with a high-flow unit, and got a new cat-back, but still no gain. My cap, rotor, coil and wires are new. But when I drive, I always have the defroster on because my windows fog up so easily and my fan doesn't work. Could the fact that the compressor is always on hurt my milage? Any other suggestions on what to do.

If the compressor is on where the belt is being used, then yes your milage will be affected and also your power.

do you think it affects it enough to drop it down 2-3 mpg?

What good is the defroster if the fan doesn't work? And yes it could cut your mileage 2-3mpg.

I missed that part. Yeah, if your fan doesn't work then your defroster shouldn't either. Or are you talking about the fan for the AC. I didn't think the AC turned on when the defroster is on, of course my AC has been out of the car so I don't know.

Without the fan working, he will get some 'flow through ventilation" to defrost the windshield. Yes the AC compressor runs while the defrost is on. Yes it will hurt mileage. The amount is determined by a lot of factors--such as cruise rpm, how full of freon, etc...

yea what 82camaro said, I still get some air through, but it only works a high speeds, which sucks. I should get that fan fix some time, lol. I can't wait for the summer when I don't have to run with my defroster on anymore. Do any of you guys know if the anti-fog stuff works? I tried it once and it seemed like it made things worse.
