1985 trans am wire identification help

I have an 85 trans am 305 H motor 5 speed. In the process of trying to put it back together after it has been butchered. Need help identifying what these wires go to and why would someone put that resistor between the two terminals?

I also can not find the wire to the coolant temp sending unit on the drivers side head. I kmow it’s supposed to be a green wire but if I were to follow that back where does it led into? Think it might have been cut so trying to see where to start looking.

thanks for the help everyone. This site has been a lifesaver.

Okay. Thank you. Any ideas about where to start looking for the coolant temp sensor wire?

Thanks.

That someone was GM, and it's a Diode, not a resistor
