305 TPI: Can't remove oil pressure sensor? (Endlessly spinning)

Hi all, (1986 Trans Am, 305 TPI)

The connector to my oil pressure switch (or sensor?) sheared off, so I was trying to remove the unit to replace it. However when I try to unscrew it via the socket on the top, it just spins forever. Is there a different way to remove this sensor?

Also, is this the oil pressure switch, or oil pressure sensor? My oil pressure gauge is pinned to max when the car is on, so I assume this is what runs the gauge on the dash, but I'm not sure. It's located behind/under the distributor.

It is a sending unit (there is no "sensor")...

Thanks! So this is what reads out to the gauge on the dash, right? Sorry, I'm very new to working on this car.

Yes, that's for the gauge.

It has a hex below the big can part as well. Probably ½" or 9/16". Try a short open-end on it when you find out what size it is.
