Gaskets for TPI...BIG mount TPI, Alternative TPI....Or any intake...
I feel like it's a fairly frequent ask on here, "where to get gaskets for....._________". Name an intake. It seems that most gaskets are available for most intakes somewhere, but of course there's a cost, and there is a wait, to get 'em. If you get into porting, then it's likely that bought gaskets won't work anyway, so since I whipped some out tonight, I figured that I'd take some pics to show how to simply make 'em yourself and not have to wait/pay for them, and have gaskets that are matched to your actual intake parts.
First, you need to get gasket material. Any/all auto parts stores will have rolls of it. The kid behind the counter likely doesn't know that they have it (or what it is)...but they have it. It's nice to have some around anyway, so grab a roll and put it in your inventory.
To do the job, you only need a couple tools. A small ball peen hammer, and a pair of scissors help.
I like to cut out a rough piece, a little bigger than I need, so I'm not dealing with the rest of the roll as I make the gasket.
Then, I get to work. Use a small ball peen hammer and TAP it lightly. Don't whack the thing, just tap it (like Happy Gilmore says) lightly along the edges of your casting, and the casting will perforate or even completely cut the paper. I like to start w/a couple bolt holes, put bolts in to keep it from moving around as I do the rest of the cuts.
Once the gasket is secured to the casting with at least two, but maybe more bolts, then I move forward with the runner/passage holes, and finish with the least important part, the perimeter.....
Pop the pieces out and pull off the perimeter pieces or trim...
...and? You got custom gaskets, "right now". "Right now" for the gasket in these pics was about 10 minutes or so. Maybe a little less.
Hope someone finds this helpful.
