5.7L H.O.???

Question for the group but what car came with a 5.7L HO? Reason I ask is cause I saw that decal for the 5.0L HO air cleaner lid in a classic industries catalog. Yeah the new one, page 171. just curious

None.

There was a package you could buy over the counter back from GM in the day, to turn an existing L69 into one, with (I believe it was at the time) the ZZ3. It included the ZZ3 (duh), a chip, some carb parts, a few misc other goodies, and ... a sticker. Last time I recall seeing it still available was around 1997 or 8 butt I could be mistaken.

Of course, ANYBODY can print up stickers that say ANYTHING; just because there's a sticker in somebody's catalog doesn't automatically mean that it has to do with anything that any cars came with.

Probably not, but if you search pics of a L69......you'd have your a pic of one, since they'd look identical, other than the ".7" rather than a ".0"

Knew a guy who had this option on his thirdgen installed at the dealership the day he bought the car. I never could explain to him this was a dealer option and not a factory deal. He was telling everyone his car was "factory 350 HO"

If Im not mistaken I believe at one time you could buy basicly an L98 longblock, "217 heads" and it was referred to as a 5.7 liter H.O. rated at 285hp? Which an L98 will probably make with a good intake, carb, and headers with good exhaust

Not installed in a car at the factory, you couldn't.

It was an over-the-counter dealer parts dept.item. Dealers of course could install them, as could any other shop, or DIY; but they didn't come in cars, as-built, at an assembly plant.

The early "ZZ" series motors were indeed essentially a L98 long block (the aluminum head variety) with a different cam and an Edelbrock Performer intake instead of TPI. So yeah, 285 HP is a reasonable estimate. That was, of course, the foundation of the "5.7 HO" kit you could buy at the parts counter, as described.

I have a 5.7 H.O. (LOL!!!). It's a 350 with the dual snorkle air cleaner, and entire exhaust system from a '84 305 H.O. ...

How much did this kit or whatever you wanna call it cost? The 80’s…we had crack, Reagan, AIDS and now 5.7L H.O. Pandemic.

I wanna say it was around $4500 1995 or so... could be wrong... could even be mistaken on that particular point, besides just generally wRong...

GM had both a 285 and 300 hp version of that engine. Internally I do not know what was different between them.

The ZZ3 was the basis of the 350 HO upgrade for the carbureted cars. It included the engine, new chip, L98 manifolds, L98 dual cat setup, HO air cleaner and duct work, a new in-tank fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and some goodies for the 700r4. IIRC the ZZ3 was good for a rated 345 HP but with the HO converion in place using the E4ME, stock L98 manifolds, cats, air pump, etc it was 308 hp. Made those cars move pretty good. Saw one running low 13s and high 12s in the 1/4 and it was emissions legal.
