Carbed Intake technology old vs new

I run a Weiand 8000 0-6000 rpm dual plane.It is 90-2000s technology as opposed to the new 2024 Weiand 8125 or 8150?.
Am I losing anything?

That used to be, and probably still is a well sought-after intake for those in CA, since it has an CARB EO number (and EGR provision). It looks a lot like the old 67-69 Z28 intake and the Chevy "Iron" intake, which ranked 21 out of the 23 intakes in an old intake shoot out article (based on peak HP), but did rank about the same as the Performer.

Whether you're giving up much depends on your power level. I'd expect similar gains at this power level going from the 8000 to the Air Gap RPM. Good news is, you probably could get as much from someone in CA to break even buying a new intake.

Manifold PN ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Peak TQ ,, Peak HP ,, Avg. TQ ,, TQ at 3,000 ,, Combined Power
Edelbrock Air Gap RPM 7501,,,,,,,508,,,,,,,,, 474,,,,,,,,, 471,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 473 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 1926
Weiand Speed War 8150 ,,,,,,,,,,,,502 ,,,,,,,, 467 ,,,,,,,, 465,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 467 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 1901
Weiand Street Warrior 8125 ,,,,,,, 501 ,,,,,,, 463 ,,,,,,,, 464 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 470 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 1898
Chevy Iron 14096011 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,494 ,,,,,,,, 457,,,,,,,,, 459,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 468 ,,,,,,,,,,,,.,,,,, 1878

Sorry, just realized you're probably asking about it on your 305. That test wouldn't really be applicable and it's possible if you went with a "bigger" intake you could lose some power in the lower to mid RPM band.

Hard to beat a Perfomer RPM even on a 305.

The best intake #s I have seen are from the Victor Jr intakes. I am running one on one of my foxbody mustangs. No numbers on that however. Don't have one on any of my thirdgens.

Sub 6,500 rpm on most combinations a Performer RPM is going to take a Vic Jr out in average power numbers. The exception is with GM TBI. The limited CFM of even a big block TBI is enhanced by the open plenum. Dual planes want a lot of CFM to work best.

I am not saying every engine needs a Dominator either, but look at the testing Eric Weingartner just performed. Dual plane with a Dominator was a stump puller on his test engine. I wish he had tried a header evac system on that combination as well, bet it would have added a bit more average power.

Honestly the real bottle neck is not using some form of Modern EFI like holley etc. Keep the old school look with modern tech. On any intake it will be a beyond improvement. Especially with all the deals out there

Not really, I can make a Q-Jet work just as well as most of that junk and far more reliable. The leanest I can target with the Proflow4 I run is 15:1. Cost fuel mileage compared to a Q-Jet as well.

Re: Carbed Intake technology old vs new

Thanks guys! I have no use for an Air gap manifold, due to weather considerations.
I have a Weiand 7525 if I want to go single plane manifold. Not recommended.
Fuel injection not an option. I know nothing about it. I have been using holleys for just over 50 years.
Weiand 8000 paid for, and great performance.
Hood clearance, the 8000 fits just right. I will research the Eddie RPM spreadbore and the weiand products!
Thanks for the advice Gents! Keep em coming.

I 100% doubt that. The Holley EFI systems literally learn and adapt to how your car is running and can adjust just about everything by themselves. They will always be more efficient and spot on
