VATS Key ?

I’m restoring an 85 Iroc with 71,000 miles on it.
I know the VATS key is not on an 1985 but I only got 1 set of keys with the car. The key is a VATS key. Any ideas ? Did someone just cut a VATS key or is there a way I can check to make sure I have no VATS ?

Thanks

I'm guessing someone just cut a VATS key.

Re: VATS Key ?

If it has the stock VATS then you should find a two position connector under steering column. A picture can be seen in this thread,

if not, then the pellet is inconsequential.

Thanks. I will look and see if I can find anything.

Re: VATS Key ?

Another way is to have a copy cut of the key without a chip and see if the car starts.

Based on the hundreds of threads posted about it on this site, and as big of a PITA as that VATS system is for owners of 3rd gens with it, I can't even imagine someone retrofitting it to an '85.

....but I've also learned to never say, 'never' on this forum; stranger things than that have been reported here.

I was thinking the same thing.
was wondering if the steering column was switched out at some point. I know the wiring would have to be connected as well.
