Different height distrib. from 305 to 350?

I am building a supercharged 350 for my '84Z. I was test fitting my old distributor (off the original 305 H.O.) and realized it does not sit all the way down on the intake manifold. I would say it is a good inch too tall. If it did sit on the intake manifold it appears it would be a loose fit. I was under the assumption that the 305 and 350 distrib. are the same. What is the deal? I have to pass emissions so I need to use an HEI distrib. that works with my computer. According to MSD I have to use a remanufactured one because nobody makes an aftermarket HEI for my year. Do I just need to talk to Holley about their supercharger intake manifold(not again please!)? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

glen

No, I am not going to use this air cleaner when it's finished.

The distributors are the same. Is it not engaging the oil pump right? Have you tried turning the motor over by hand while wiggling the distributor? Usually that'll make it drop in the rest of the way.

Yeah, it sounds like its not engaging the oil pump shaft. You need to line up the shaft with where the tang on the dis. will meet it while you drop it in.
Just use a long flathead screwdriver to do this.

FWIW, a 305 distributor is the same height as a 396/402/427/454/502 distributor. How 'bout them apples?

Yep, it's sitting on top of the oil pump shaft rather than in the slot.

Damon'll love the carb...
