Stop Legislation That Threatens Your Hobby!

I didn't know where to post this, but this very important.

I read in the summitracing.com website news. That the senate will fund a program that any vehicle more than 15 years old will have to be in the scrap yard.

quote:
U.S. Senate Bill S.1766 contains a provision (Section 803) that would allocate federal funds for state scrappage programs for vehicles more than 15 years old.
(c) of Summitracing.com

My car will be 12 years this Sept. not many years left to enjoy the car!

Please help stop this new law from happing. If you wish to participate please visit Summitracing.com or www.enjoythedrive.com

Thanks.

they cant do it, it makes no sense. theres more to it than that, maybe scrap any car more than 15 years old that belongs to no one, but if you own it, theres no way. possetion is 9/10's of the law, and we own our cars, therefore, they are ours not theres. lol what would all the museums do without their precious old show cars. and think about all the perfect quality drag-race camaros from 1969 and chevelles and and and... what a bunch of crap.

It's not like they are going to come knocking at your door and say I'm sorry sir, (or mam forthe ladies here) your car is now 15 years old, we verified with the manufactuer and your VIN and it indicates that on this day 15 years ago, your car was manufactured, meaning it's time for us to take it away, I wish yu luck in finding a NEW car.
There will be incentives as I understood it to scrap older cars. The downside to this is parts resource goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down...unless the boneyards become cr strip joints, and this is a bill to help them out....provide them TONS of stock, and then sell parts at a marked up price....
Don't get me wrong, I think the bill sucks hard, but you won't lose your car

We already have those aforementioned programs here in california. Its a bunch of BS, but they don't go up to your door and say "oh make sure to get all your stuff out of you car; its too old and we're towing it tomorrow". Its a gov't subsidy where they use our tax dollars (these are the same idiot politicians who couldn't keep the lights on last year) to pay people to voluntarily give their old cars to the state to scrap. I guess they do this under the guise of reducing pollution . However, to quote an old cliche, once you give them an inch they'll take a mile and the liberal politicians will try to forcefully sieze your car. Hopefully this bill will be shot down but who knows.......

Something else with this. States with these type laws get pollution credits for each old car scrapped and they then sell these to powerplants and other big business that pollute the atmosphere. Thus the big corporations can send more garbage into the at atmosphere without running afould of the EPA. And you and I the little guy are forced to buy newer cars, financing them and supporting big business. Some of these companies have also got into scrapping old cars for the credits. Don't get me started...

Is it just me or did they try this bill about 2 years ago and it didn't even make it past the house. It was voted down by a landslide vote. they try something like this every couple of years even though they do pay you for your car it isn't even close to what would could get for the car if you sold it on the private market. Over all I think the bill is :lala:

I wouldn't get too excited. It sounds like you got the e-mail from summit too? ; )

Go and actually read the entire bill. It's just a proposal to get junkers off the road basically. If someone is driving an old beater, and doesn't like it, and doesn't want it, at their option, they can take it to a state approved disposal area and be compensated for the destruction of the car.

Summit and other aftermarkert suppliers are freaking out, because this can hurt their business. (i.e, if nobody can get junkyard second-gen camaro parts, less and less people will get into them, thus, less will spend money at summit to buy cool performance parts)

Nobody is going to ransack your garage and take your cars if this bill is passed. I hope it isn't, it's just stupid, but still, it's nothing thats going to MAKE us have to destroy our cars.

"NEBRASKA INTRODUCES BILL TO PROHIBIT NITROUS OXIDE IN MOTOR VEHICLES

It’s Back! A bill (L.B. 345) has been reintroduced in the Nebraska legislature that would prohibit the use of fuel power booster delivery systems, including nitrous oxide, on motor vehicles operated in the state. The prohibition would include any "device or fuel enhancer . . . that provides a motor vehicle with the capability to operate at speed in excess of the design of the motor vehicle.""

Guess i know where not to go looking for fast cars.

does that include Octane Boosters and Auxillary fuel pumps??? Lets face it, the beurocratic a$$holes want us to be completely neutered. Its kinda ironic how 'freedom' only means you can do whatever legislature says you can, down to the smallest minute detail... they want us to drive cars THEY feel is economical because now we have ozone problems that they cant fix, but its ONLY the fault of cars...It has NOTHING to do with the Nuclear warheads, atomic bombs, etc. our government had tested, only vehicle exhaust What a crock of $hit.

alright, lets say that this bill passed in congress. How is it that you think the president would sign the bill when he is from a major oil state, recently revoked an environmental pact on the basis that scientists can't prove that humans are the largest contributors to ozone depletion, and is all about suspending some of the major gun legislation being proposed. Bush is a good ole' boy, he wouldnt accept something like this. Of course, Congress can overturn his dismissal with a 2/3 vote, but it'll be hard to rally the support.

Of course, at the same time, it couldn't hurt to comment to your senator or representative that this is a B.S. bill, but at the same time it does make sense too.

Now, with current U.S. budget problems and the increase in military spending, the likely-hood of having funds available for such a program is slim to none. Sure, you could boast that these incentives would cause people to purchase new cars, and thus stimulate the economy, but that didn't happen in home sales when interest rates dropped. Besides, when most people have a 15+ year old car, what makes you think that they are going to be able to afford a brand new one. People that are not enthusiasts wouldn't stand for such a thing simply because they usually run these cars until it quits...

Anyways, thats all I gotta say for that.... remember me when I run for President!
