How to convert to 383 stroker
How to convert to 383 stroker
I just took my engine apart thr other night to find my crank has been turned. The engine had a light rod knock before I took it apart. At this time I may change over to a stroker. Other than changing the rods, crank and pistons what other machine work do I need? I will be running 58cc heads and zz4 cam. I would buy a rotating assembly with new damper and flex plate. Thanks

383 cost
Bill mitchell at hardcore racing. Has a nice 383 set. Last time I checked it was all stell rods and crank, forged pistons, internally balanced already all for $1800 which is a damn good price for a balanced all steel assembly. Hope this helps, that is the best kit i've found.
Thanks but I would like to keep my block. I have found Rotating assemblies for around 800.00. I really don't fell I need a forged crank . I will never push the engine past 5500 rpms (I hope) What mods have to be done to the block???

I think you'll need some mild machining done on the block so the rod bolts will clear. The piston need to have the right pin height if you use 400 rods or they will hit the counter wieght on the crank. That's my experience at least, from about 1990
Also need a balancer, and flexplate from a 400CIN. However, I heard about an internaly balanced setups, but it will probably cost you more.

Stick with a High compression 350, or go with a 400 !!!!!

When I had mine done they needed to groove out a few slots for the rod bolts to clear in there rotation.
It's hard to explain, you would have to see it...
Maybe someone has a PIC ???

The block has to be ground down around where the oil pan bolts onto it. This has to be done to clear the rod bolts. If you dont do this you will whack your rods into the block. Minimum .050 clearance. Also check the clearance between rods bolts and cam. I had to grind mine down to clear.
