What head gaskets with o-rings ?

I've got a 400 block that was already o-ringed by the previous owner. The machine shop is telling me that the only gaskets that will now work with this setup are copper head gaskets. From what I've seen on this board these gaskets will eventually leak. Can a similar FelPro gakets be used with no problems ? Or any other gasket that will be somewhat more reliable ? Thanx

You'll need a copper gasket for it to seal properly.

All Baby, That setup is ready for a super high compression setup !

I have a set of SCE coppers hanging in my garage.

Head over to http://www.scegaskets.com/ , and get you set.

Weather you can run them without, I don't know ?

Copper gaskets, and copper spray, it shouldn't leak that bad.

Dammit.. I was hoping I can get away with NOT using them. I heard they suck on the street as far as reliabilty goes. Is that true ? Taking off the heads and replacing gaskets is not fun.

I'm woundering if you could get away with using some Fel-Pro 1010 ?
They are a composite head gasket with a copper core instead of steel. Normaly used with Aluminum Heads.

I would question the reliabilty factor ? I don't know, so I would contact SCE or other OEM'er that make copper head gaskets.

When I bought this block it had heads on it. And guess what... 1010 felpro gaskets were used. I dont know if I should contact SCE and ask them if I can use a competitor's gasket. I have a feeling they'll give me a biased opinion. LOL

Cool, the only down side is the 1010's cost about 30 bucks each.

I use them myself.

Niiiice! I'm thinking I could reuse the 1010's. The heads were torqued to the block but it was never run so the gaskets still look brand new. They ARE copper gaskets after all, just with a coating added on. Maybe I'll call FelPro and ask them... hmmm....
