Oil pressure gauge shoots all the way up WTHell?

My oil pressure gauge goes all the way up (to that little black pin and stops) when the car is in Part Throttle or WOT. When i let the foot of the gas the gauge drops to where it should be. It works fine when i am accelerating slowely.

WTHell? Should I worry?
What can cause this?

It happened after I got an oil change at Walmart. I am using same 5W30 Castrol all the time.

Any suggestions?

Mine is currently doing the same thing. I've been told the oil pressure sending unit is on the way out and should be replaced.

change the filter that they put on there, and check the oil level. Did it happen immediatly after you took it there?

Mine has always done that. My sending unit is only about 3 months old. The old one did the same thing. When the old one went out, the pressure on the gauge showed 0.
I always just figured that the gauge was about as accurate as our great gas gauges. I use 5W-30 mobile one and a pure one filter. My motor has about 115k on it. Its always ran great so I wouldn't worry about it.

The oil sending units in our cars are notorious for being inaccurate. Mine had an aftermarket one installed before I got it.

I would think around $30. Check www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com

Doesn't have much to do with this topic, but DONT go to a high volume, high pressure oil pump. A stocker with a 69 Z28 will satisfy even a 700 hp, 7000 prm engine, and any thing more can be fixed with a big block pump.

Just something to keep in mind!

Having your Oil Gauge 'pegged high' is either: 1) Oil sending unit, 2) Shorted wire from sending unit to gauge or 3) Bad gauge. In that order.
