Shady tree cleaning :)

Ok, after spraying every can of solvent, starting fluid, gasoline, and other good smelling chemicals at an intake manifold. I figured hell why not find out what works best for other people.

Besides hot tanking or blasting, who's getting their engine components cleanest with what?

I like using the foam spray Engine Brite or Gunk. Also Vader, gave me the idea of using laundry detergent. Works well.

Detergent.. thats an Idea I've yet to try.

I tried the foam stuff, It does help to break up the thicker stuff. I want to get it looking new, but its not worth scrubbing

Lazy eh?

Castrol superclean is the sh<x>it, bar none. The only issue is it is so damn good that it will actually etch (corrode) aluminum. I don't know how it would look if you did an early style TPI w/ it, but it left my late style rough cast vette runners/plenum looking great with a fine white dustiness to it.

The Super Clean stuff is great. Its more along the lines of spray it on, scrub, wipe, or hose off. I used it, before reading the directions, straight out of the bottle. It started to eat the paint off the under side of my hood. I have soaked push rods in a cup full, and didn't even have to wipe off the dirt. It can tear up your hands if you have dry skin. They will look like you dipped them in paint thinner. I would recomend Super Clean to anyone.

I too use super clean. I have to wear gloves when I use it. Just the vapor seems to make my hands break out. Also a word of warning, If you are cleaning your engine and dont intend to repaint, it will change the color of the paint. Even if you dont leave it on very long. Changed my chevy blue motor to baby blue. Friend of mine tried it on a dirty license plate. Left it in the sun a bit and it ate all the paint off the plate. It actually says you can use it as oven cleaner or drain opener at full strength.
