swapping in a 4th gen keyless entry

anyone done this? A buddy crashed his perfect 50k TA and I can get the keyless entry and aftermarket alarm, but I was wondering how much trouble it will be to swap the keyless system over.
Thanks,
Jeremy

I believe the keyless entry parts are either tied into the ECM or some sort of other module. I am almost postitive that it would be a lot easier to buy an aftermarket kit. The keyless entry systems are a snap to install, and you can get great deals on ebay. I picked up a keyles/remote start/trunk pop kit for $90 and installed it myself. A shop quoted me $350 for the same kit installed.

I got a kit for $20, plus $2 for the trunk release add-on, and $4 for the starter imoblizizor. Wiring is simple!

I like easy. E-bay it is. I think I will get the alarm off of the car though.

pay attention if the keyless entry system you're considering has onboard relays for door locks and starter kill. if not, you'll need 3 external relays because thirdgens use a low current positive trigger lock system.

While on topic of remote start, note that remote start is not intended for manual transmission equipped cars nor is it intended for carburated vehicles.

Also, car must start quickly after turning the key. If your car requires pumping the gas pedal to start or stalls while idling, fix those problems before connecting the remote start features of the alarm system.

I have a remote starter for my l69t/a,,it is carbed and 5 speed..
the remote starter is designed for manual trannys,,,,What it does is,you have to set the e brake while the tranny is in neutral and the motor is running.. after you turn the key off the motor will stay running.when you get out of the car and shut the door the motor turns off...now the starter knows the car is in neutral and the e-brake is set...I payed like 600 dollars for it,,but it also has an alarm with a pager,it opens my doors(heavy duty servos to push them heavy doors open included)open my rear glass, rolls my windows up and down, and turn on my flip up headlights..
pretty cool huh?

GreenProStreet and others who have done a kit--

Where did you pick this up for so cheap? (where can i get one??) I looked on ebay under "pontiac keyless entry" but didn't find much...
I'm going to be switching over to power locks in the next couple of weeks, if i could swap in a remote at the same time that'd be great.

GM branded add-on alarms and keyless entry systems were made by CodeAlarm, but lately some have been made by DEI.

ought to be able to find what you're after on ebay under "Consumer Electronics > Car Audio & Electronics > Car Alarms"

please read my post again,,,,
you have to set the e-brake with the engine running,,,,
put the car in neutral with the engine running,,,,,
turn key off,,car stays running,,,,,
open the door and get out,,,,the car stays running,,,,,
shut the door ,,,the car shuts off,,,,,
if any of these parameters are not met,,the car will not remote start.....................................................
so if the e-brake has to be set,and the car has to be in neutral before it will remote start,,,,,HOW CAN THIS BE DANGEROUS,!!!!
sheesh,,im sure there was a bunch of highly paid engineers working on this before it would be sold,,,theres a switch on the e-brake that has to be on before the remote start will even have a signal..same with the shifter...but it is cool to watch the parking lights flash when u try to start it without one of em set...
Ive been using it for about a year now without problem:rockon:
