5.7 and other synthetic gurus I have a question?

My wifes truck is well over due for an oil change.
I cant find any jugs of mobile 1, but I can get Cas-troll syntech dirt cheap about $14 for a 5qt jug. My other choice is Rotella the shell brand synthetic. Which should I get??

5.7, I seen a guy driving around a couple days back with AMSOIL dealer stickers on his truck, Do you happen to know how I can contact the dealer here in Pueblo? Its not in the phone book as of yet and I had delayed reation when I saw the truck 2+2===========Oh damn it!

Thanks!

I would definately try to find some Mobil, I personally don't like Castrol because all their business is based on marketing and deception, not the quality of their product. Ever seen their Syntec commercial that says 'We put Castrol Syntec up against the leading CONVENTIONAL oils....' Yeah it beat all the competitors' oils in the tests but Syntec is almost $5/qt and the 'leading conventionals' it was up against are less than two including Mobil (Best oil period, conventional or synthetic) which is less than $1.50/qt.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Rotella comes from dinosaurs, it's not synthetic. It just has more detergents because it's used in diesels.

Go here http://www.amsoil.com/dealerinfo2.htm and fill in the request. They'll send you a list of dealers in your area.

If you select the "send me a catalog" option, put 276713 in the "Customer Number" blank.

you can try redline synthetic, hehe, if you're willing to pony up 8 bux a quart. we run it in the spitfire, it gives a little more horsepower and better hi-temperature handling. royal purple is another good brand that is a bit cheaper.

for the street cars at my house, all i use is valvoline 10w-30 regular oil. there really is no need for synthetics on the street, possibly longer engine life? if so, that's hard to measure.

I put Mobil 1 in my parents cars because those aluminum 4 bangers run so damn hot. They also don't get that many miles so to keep it around I like to know that the best is in there. That and my parents know nothing about cars so I like to prevent any "user error" situations.

My van NEVER gets above 195* so I run the regular dino-juice Valvoline.

I believe that synthetic oil is better, but I change mine every 1000-2000 miles or so.

OK..... How ya'll feel about Royal Purple?

Is it too expensive for what it does? Would you recommend it for racing only? Has anyone on here really used it?

I've read good reports about it, but of course they were by Summ-****, and Jugs so they could just be trying to sell the stuff.

some guys i race with use royal purple, they have good luck, i just use redline out of habit and our good luck with it. i'm sure it's quality oil, but i wouldn't bother with it in a streetcar.

the only reason i say the horsepower gain is not important on the street is because it's hardly worth the price of the oil. You probably will not feel the gain of a couple horses. we use it in the race car for protection, the oil temp usually stabilizes at 240 with redline, more like 260 with petroleum oil. extra couple horsepower is just icing on the cake, not the reason we use it.

too many posts. I just used the supertech for now. Its $3 a quart and has a surprisingly similar pour quality to Mobil 1. It has the exact same droplets that slide down the funnel real fast as Mobil 1 and is the same exact color, so it probably is Mobil 1 just packaged differently.
Just like that flush I pay $2.50 for is just diesel fuel.
