Do the electronic speedometers read off of the computer or the speed sensor??
Do the electronic speedometers read off of the computer or the speed sensor??
I am switching my entire dash out for the 90-92 style dash in my Camaro. I am running a 90-92 ECM and I have a speed sensor. To make the speedometer work, does it read off of the computer or the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)? Thanks in advance.

Are there any modifications I need to do to the dash to make it work? I know I had to modify my 84 dash harness to work with the 90-92 TPI computer. But now I'm switching over to the 90-92 dash. Any ideas? Thanks.
hmm... my '88 p/u seems to go directly to the dash or something.. at least I know to recalibrate for the different tires it was done on the rear of the dash.. also when I run the winaldl it won't show me the speed.. any input on this one?

Hey Jeff The gauges for the 88 to 91 trucks have the vss buffer built into them. The vss signal is first sent to the gauges and from there it is converted to a signal the tbi computer can understand.
As for why winaldl wont display speed for you I would have no idea.
Also if you have not switched to the 91 gauges with a tach. but would like to let me know and I will send you the wire diagram for the swap, it is the easiest swap possible.

I too have a 90-02 ECM in my car.
I am still running the VSS Buffer box that was stock on my car.
One day I will run it through the ECM since the ECM uses the VSS Data for some things.
