Edelbrock Air Cleaners Suck!

hey all
I need some help.

I had my car at the trans shop, and he must have somehow bumped the distributor hard enough to move it significantly, cuz when hewent for a test drive, he floored it, and it backfired severly through the carb.
I have a foam Edelbrock air cleaner, and the thing lit on fire and totally melted and disentegrated,
while this doesent seem like a huge problem, it dripped melting foam into my carb., and now it runs like hell at idle, cuz there is melted foam all over the throttle plates. And inside the actual Ventuis on all 4.
How do I clean these, think Carb. spray would take care of this? The whole inside of the carb. isnow black and chunky.

You DON'T want a foam air filter that can melt and or age and crumble into your carb. Those are primarily for looks.

Well, when you remove the trannie or cross member the engine wants to tilt back. This could be the distributor problem.

There's nothing wrong with removing the carb, and cleaning it up.
Just make sure you install a new base gasket, so you don't have to chase down a new vacuum leak.

Those things should be outlawed.I had one on my car for a short time because of lack of hood clearance, the edelbrock carb+adapter plate kind.I rough-set my timing after a intake swap and cranked it over,POOF! Shot fire right through the carb and half melted the element right there.the car didn't actually start so i took the stupid thing off before it melted in the carb like your's did.Once i did get the car timed and running,i got a new element and used it untill i found something different.Even when they're in one piece, they can't compare to a good drop-base 3 inch open element aircleaner. The foam seemed to smother my car,it felt like i picked up 10 hp once i got rid of it.

BWAHAHAHA another victim suckered in by the Triangle of Death from the good people at Edelcrap.

Sorry..but they're notorious for that. I don't even know how many I've heard of failing..lost count.

I also don't know of a solvent that will work...maybe laquer thinner or something.
might just have to strip your carb down and and scrape it all out physically.
