Are the engine cleaner stuff ok to use?

Are the engine cleaner stuff ok to use?
I have an 86 camaro 2.8 V6, and i was wondering if it's ok to use the engine treatment like (Prolong or any other products) if it will actully harm the engine or actully help it out like it says?
