Any problems w/ putting a 350 into a V6 body??
Any problems w/ putting a 350 into a V6 body??
Ok heres the deal.... i have been looking around quite a bit lately for a V8 thirdgen to swap my motor over to (mines too rusted out...) but the only thirdgens that i have found around me that are in good condition and are fairly cheap are V6 models - - I only need the body so i dont wanna spend $3000 for a V8 w/ motor and everything...
Does anyone think i would run into any problems putting my new 350 into a V6 body?? What exactly is different between the models?? Main reason is that i dont want to cause a bunch of torque damage to the frame or anythin else. I guess i could yank anything I need off my RS if needed - and if not i would have a great reason to finally buy SFC's and the works.
So if anyone has any thoughts as to whether i'd cause any damage to the body or run into any problems please let me know

I think there are some things different about the 700R4's also, not sure.
okay, well i have my V8 that i can tear any **** off of if i need it.... but as far as the frames and everything else go, they're identical?? If not what exactly is bigger/stronger on the V8 models??
TIA
TIA
well considering I own a v6 I think the only diff is the front springs becuz they have to support a heavier engine. otherwise the struts back springs and everything else is the same. Have fun with the wiring harness though. Subframe connectors might help if its got t tops. hope I could help.

yeah I forgot about the wiring harness and ECM ...And yes the front springs are different. V6 will lower about 1/4 inch with teh V8 in the 'bay not bad automatic bad *** stance...

You'll have to swap your current motor and trans, and countless other little parts, over from your RS. Get one that's a similar year to yours or you'll regret it.

i didnt think there'd be much difference...but better to be safe than sorry

..and I like the idea of having the front a bit lower - - just as long the springs can withstand the weight.
And depending on how much money I have around, i may be able to put new manifolds and a carb in at the same time the motor is out. (Tho i am planning to do my exhaust first and foremost once i get the new body)
Thanks for all the help guys, i really appreciate it - - and i'll let everyone know how it turns out once i get goin at it

This is a common topic on the Motor Swap forum, and many, many have done it (see sig).
Other than what was mentioned above, my V8 donor car had a triangle brace between the frame and crossmember that the V6 car did not have - however, it's a bolt-on, and the holes were there in the V6 car. The V8 sway bar is also heavier, but again, that's a bolt-on.
It is a lot of work, most of the time guys already have a V6 car and want a V8 - we tell them to sell the V6 car and go buy a factory V8 car (I shouldn't have bought the V6 car, but I didn't know much back then). You're in a slightly different situation, but unless there is really something special about this engine/transmission, you'd still probably be better off selling what you've got and buying a V8 car. Money- and time-wise, that is.
