noisy fuel pressure regulator

I just put the holley blue pump on my car and it is EXTREMELY noisy. Actually all the sound comes from the fuel pressure regulator. I have the fpr mounted on the firewall and it's louder than the motor and my motor is pretty loud. Any suggestions? I did a search and can't find what I'm looking for. HELP!

94,

I don't know what the "blue" pump is like, but if the pump or regulator has a third line, it should be routed back to the fuel tank for overflow. Plugging this third line will cause excessive pressure pulsation and may account for this noise.

I have the two port regulator that came with the pump and one is going to the carb and the other is going to a fuel solenoid. Should I take one line off the regulator and make it into a return line and then just tee into the carb line for the fuel solenoid? I really don't like the idea of this. I spent alot of time on running all the fuel lines to make it look pretty.

Well, you lost me on that one. I'm a little confused about the regulator now. Do you have instructions with the regulator?

I have looked for the instructions but no luck. I wouldn't think that it would matter about how I have it set up. I just want it quiet. I tried to call Holley yesterday and was on hold for way too long so I hung up. Anyone else have the blue pump?

It sounds like you have either the 12-803 Holley unit. There is no relief line on these, so if it makes noise it may be a characteristic of the design. You might also be flowing a lot less fuel than the pump and regulator were designed to handle.

Mine looks just like that. I have it set at 6psi flowing pressure. That should be enough, right? Could it be a faulty regulator?

6 PSI should be plenty for almost any carburetor. Maybe call Holley back when you have a couple of days to wait?

I've got the problem solved. I talked to tech guy at Jegs and he gave me some good advice. I am using aluminum tubing all the way up to the regulator and 3/8 brass compression fittings. All the vibration from the pump was being transferred through the hard line. As we all know that sound travels better through a solid. Anyway, I got under the car and cut about a 5" section of tubing out and replaced it with rubber 3/8 fuel hose. Now, you can hear the pump running in back but no vibration is coming from under the hood.

Thanks Vader for replies.
