ok, sot he guys who had my car in the shop broke the air tubes on my drivers side header when they were outting the motor in and insist that I did it so they won't replace it (they will be hearing from the DMV). . anyways, until then I have 4 holes right after my exhaust valves that are shooting blue flames into my engine compartment. . . . has anybody here ever removed the air tubes and then block off the holes. . . how'd you do it?? also, do you think if I get some pipe connector (male on both ends) and thread them in there and seal it with JB weld and then cap them that will hold?? or will it come apart and leak again?? I dont care bout looks, I just cant have blue flames and all the noise I already **** my neighbors off. . . . thnaks for the help

 

I used some grade 8 bolts with the proper thread, and cut tem down in length so they would stick out too far. If you can find steel pipe plugs use them, brass ones (more common) wont work theyll get too hot and melt. JB weld will probably melt too...

yea I stipped the brass, I can pick up steal ones at home depot, but they are 3" long. so I am going to have tubes sticking out, but at least they will be sealed.

 

When I remvoed mine, I just took a dremel and cut them off nice and clean with about a half inch left, then I took some bolts that were just small enough to fit in there real tight and thread them in with some torque and a rachet so they would be tight. Then I cut the bolts off flush with tube. After that I used a bronze brazing rod(not expensive) and a small MAPP gas torch to melt the part of the rod onto the bolt and tube end to seal it completely. Are you planning on taking the headers off to remove the pipes? You'll have to to use the bronze and MAPP gas though. But just remember, they'll be a lot easier to put back on once those stupid tubes are off of there.

 

I cut mine off, then welded them shut. This works perfect. Dont think bolts sticking out of them would look all that great. I haven't had any problems, welds hold fine. Of course this is a real weld, not jb don't know about that.:rockon: :rockon: :rockon: :rockon: :rockon:

 

at the moment I am not too concerned with how it looks, I just don't like the idea of blue flames shooting into my engine compartment. I am going to get new headers the summmer, so it is kind of onlu a temporary fix for the time being. thanks for the help. :-)

 

i just cut mine off and left about a half inch high nub sticking up...then just squeezed em shut with a pair of vise grips....no leaks afterwards. that was on a set of edeljunk headers.

 

yea, mine are edelbrock headers too, I just finsihed up. . I ended up just using pipe threads and then just capped them off. it works good, no leaks that I can hear anyway. . . but now that those are sealed up I can hear the clicking from the in my Y-Pipe where it meets the cat. . . I hear almost all third gens have this leak. . . what are some of the ways you guys fixed it?? just some exhaust tape??
