a follow up post to "ported or polished"
has anyone actually bolted on l98 aluminum heads to a 305? if so how does it run and did you have any valve shrouding issues? also how can you tell if valve shrouding is or will occur? see "ported or polished " for the full scoop and thnx in advance
I would like to know about the installation of the L98s on a 305...i have a mild/wild setup on a 305...and the stock heads need to go.....how much should these heads cost??...about how much HP gain??...are they a "direct bolt-on"?

They are sortof a direct bolt on. They have the pre-87 style intake bolt angles so you'll have to get a pre-87 intake. Don't know about the shrouding...sorry
.
. I've got them on my 305 and they work fine. I have an edelbrock tpi intake so I didn't need to do anything, although elongating the bolt holes on a post-86 manifold will work fine. They have D shaped exhaust ports so some headers don't work great with them, such as edelbrock(which I'm using, unfortunately). They can be directly bolted on with decent improvements IF you have aftermarket parts. On an otherwise stock engine it is a waste.
Regular L98 heads are a bit big and will kill compression with stock pistons, just so you know DABE. These aluminum L98s from vettes have 58cc combustion chambers, same as stock 305s. They have larger valves, which some people think will cause shrouding on such a small bore. While this may be true, I've had no such issues on my engine. My heads were professionally ported before I put them on nine months ago. I ran mid 14s at 96mph last year, but I had very bad traction and horrendous 60 foot times. FYI Kevin91Z is running 12s with these heads on his 350.

i have an edelbrock tbi intake, should i call them and ask if the bolt pattern will match ? or do you guys know? as for the headers i have hookers on the stock heads now.....i assume they will match up, is plug angle the same on the l98 alum heads? i have no header to wire conflicts now im hoping it stays that way..............alot of things to look into when buying heads ,sorry for all the questions
