Car doesnt start, wait 5 minutes, starts...what gives?

I'm on my way to go to class today so i go out to start my car and to my surprise nothin happends. My first thought is, "crap, the battery is dead" but all the electrical stuff turns on so i wait a sec and try again. Nothing.. key goes all the way over and nothing. No sound of it turning over, just a clicking. I immediately think the starter might be shot so i swear extensively at the car and come back inside. About 10 minutes later i go back outside to give it another try and BAM, it starts w/ absolutely no problem. I let it run for a few minutes, kill it and it starts right back up. Just started it a few minutes ago and it works fine. What could be the problem? Something electrical? The battery? The alternator? I'm grasping at straws here so please help me out. Thanx

Sounds like a starter solenoid. A lot of time they go bad gradually and you'll get things like that. Course if you haven't had a problem since, it could be just a glitch, like some moisture in something, those things happen sometimes.

hey
does your 91 have the vats, if so it could be the resistor in the key. I had the same problem.
just something to think about.
