GRUDGE : 91 Bird vs. 87 Camaro

one of my best friends lives across the street, and him and I together have fixed our cars up and he will not beleive that I would beat him in the 1/4. (Not walk away from him but still be ahead) Heres the info..

ME:
1991 Firebird 305 TBI, 5 speed stick, 3.42 posi rear, blaster coil (bigger gap on plugs), no emissions, underdrive pulleys, 14" K&N open element, Edelbrock TES headers (3" pipes, straight piped cat, flowmater 80 series muffler with dual 2.5" out), fiberglass hood, and 215/15" wheels. Motor is strong as heck with 100,000 miles almost.

HIM:
1987 Camaro SC, Rebuilt LG4 engine to stock specs and replaced with a rebuilt rochester carb (guessing 470 cfm). 350 turbo trans, 2.73 open ended, no emissions either, 9" open air filter, and 215/70r14 tires in the back. Everything else is stock.

Should I race and defend myself, or will he walk on me???

well, mine includes a few bolt ons a free flowing exhaust and a rebuilt qjet. With my timing set at zero i ran a 15.8 at 89 mph. I'm sure with timing advanced to 6 degrees and if i leave that heavy dual 12" sub box at home i can pull low 15's. his camaro doesnt sound very hot, im guessing hes running mid-low 16's. you should take him, but my buddy Ezey-go who is on this board has a very similar car to yours and he has run a best of 16.1 but he has better gears. I know this race will depend on who gets the jump, cuz neither of you two have much pulling power. Just make sure you get a good launch, run em and post what happens.

His car usually feels faster at times, but i think its cause he drives crazy and his engine revs higher with the different tranny. I know its the worst engine (lo3), look at my sig and you'll see my plans.

Actually, i think the worst engine was the "IRON DUKE".

I'd say you'll take him as long as your car is in good running condition.

Actually my 3.1 W/5 speed beats 305TBI's all the time. And considering the Carb version has LESS power.....

I really don't see how that's the case, considering you have a low 17 sec car to their at least low 16 sec car.
at least in a 1/4 that is you may have better gears for off the line.

Well I know my car has beaten a 305 TBI with headers and exhaust. The kid has paid me over 500 bucks because of it.

And I am not completely stock either. I have plus 4lb injectors(19Lb not 15) ported/polished intake(upper/intermediate/lower) custom CAI/Ram air. Air pump working as a vacuum pump. and a higher friction clutch.

Yes it leaves the line first, but after I get second... Bye bye...

From a stop you should smoke him

2.73 gears + th350 = VERY deep first gear

Your trans has much better gearing, and I'd bet you are making more power. Stock for stock I think you have more torque also...but Im no tbi expert.

I'd like to see some track or G-Tech times if you ever get a chance.?

I'd love to get ahold of a G-tech. 89CamaroRSV6 has Teched his and his according to it pulls 16.2. We both agree that mine is faster even after the extensive stuff hes done. I have driven his and think its slower then mine, and he has ridden in mine and agrees(measured by standing start to a fixed distance IE to a highway MPH sign). His is gaining, but still not enough. So I would say roughly 15.8 maybe....

I plan on tacking mine to the track after I rig this magled turbo gone Super charger... at 4-6 PSI...
