There's a guy at work that has a '95 GT 5.0, has a few things done to it. Supposed to have GT-40 heads, full exhaust, pullies, yada, yada.
Anyhow he was always claiming his car runs 8.5 in the 1/8th. Talked about all the people he beat on the street and thought he was king dingaling. So one night we finally get him out to the track to see this 8.5 run. His first run was a 10.4x, second run was 12.xx. We all laughed at first, then started giving him pointers and telling him how to launch. He claimed he couldn't get traction and the track was junk. I told him to stuff it because I was getting 2.11 60' times consistently, and could have got better if I had more stall in the converter. Anyhow this magical 8.5 car eventually went 9.60@77mph. I told him he might get a low 9 if he learns the car better and better traction. Proved to him that the street on a roll is much different from the strip. Later

gotta love it when a sh*t talking punk gets shut up by his own pathetic quarter mile times. sometimes you have to wonder just where exactly do they come up with the numbers they claim their cars run?

Sounds like the kid I met through a friend with a 650HP 92 mustang. I asked how he got 650 HP with a naturally aspirated 302 while biting my lip so I wouldnt laugh in his face. He said he got the 650 HP because "that is what it should be putting out because of all the mods and what they claim they add." I asked if he had any track times and he said he was gonna run at Norwalk this summer and hopes to hit 8 seconds flat. I gotta be there to see this.

Hey if I took all the parts I added, and put in the claimed hp I would have in the neigborhood of 400. These kids (even though I am only 17) are so stupid they think they have tons of power with bolt ons!!

Sounds a lot like a guy I met whose dad had an LS1 trans am. Here's an excerpt of the conversation:

Me : last summer I was able to romp on a new z28 convertable, fast car

Him : my dad has a brand new trans am.

Me : Nice car, which transmission?

him : It has the 6-speed, its so cool its got 6 power gears!

Me : uh huh, what is a power gear (this guy generally had an air
of ignorance around him, so I wanted to see what he would say). I know that the 6 speed has 4 drive gears and 2 overdrive gears.

Him : No, it doesn't have OD, it has 6 power gears.

the conversation then degressed into me trying to explain that a car can accelerat in OD, and what OD actually means.
at this point 1/2 of the crowd left b/c they couldn't hold in the laughter and the other half joining in on my behalf.

As a high school student, i can tell you I know a lot of people who claim the highly added horsepower. I love to hear how since they added a fart can and a cold air intake that they now can beat anyone in the school's car. They say 20 horse from the intake and 25 from the exhaust, and therefore there little 4 banger now makes close to 200 horse because its a strong motor from the factory, the K&N gave them 10 horse, yada yada yada. I point out that by there formula I have more power than them anyway. Let's see, 150 (base LG-4), hooker cat back (25 by their formula), open element filter in cowl hood (20 by their formula), no smog pump (yet another 15). Oh yeah wait, my motor is "underated" like theirs, so tack on another 25 for old times sake. So that gives me a grand total of 235. Does my motor have more than 175? You bet your butt it doesnt. Of course that was with the 305, which is currently on the floor of my garage.

There's a kid I work with that REALLY gets to me. He has a 95 6 speed Z-28, with a whole bunch of little bolt ons. Car is fast no doubt about it, but with all the mods and horsepower gains they advertise, he has around 400 horsepower. Car runs 13.7, its no slouch, but im sorry, an LT1, headers, exhaust, a cold air intake and an airfoil do not magically give you 125 horsepower.

hmmm...
I try to add things up and figure out what I will be gaining as well. But I don't go advertising it. Here's my formula:

K&N, hipo ignition, Bosch +4 plugs, wires, better fuel pump...whatever.......................................5hp
Edelbrock 700 cfm......................................5-10hp
dual exhaust.............................................10-20hp
headers....................................................10hp
64cc heads...............................................10hp
camshaft....................................................5hp

Anyway, that's the idea. I could be wrong. This is the first time I've mentioned it, and I'm not claiming it to be fact.
What is it with these people?

I am not sure on the accuracy but i believe that whn i buy a performance part, usually it is advertised as ging ..lets say 10 -20 HP depending on the motor..so i always just go with the lower number ...i may be wrong but i think thats fair b/c u have to gain at least a little, so.....

See, when they advertise that stuff they always do it on a high HP motor, so this way there will be a greater % change in HP.
I mean, flowmaster says like 30rwhp or something like that for their mufflers.. yeah right, only on a 302 pushing some mad power with crappy mufflers.

Same with K&N.

I hear that b.s. all the time here from the *ustang and ***** guys. I have one of the few "running" thirdgens around these parts and I always get "Well, with my intake, exhaust and gears I'm making close to 300 horses" Then I say "Wow, that impressive coming from that 4 cyl. Wanna race" Then they say "what do you have?" I say" Nothing really, just exhaust and stock gears" So we go race, street most of the time then when I beat them it's "What happened with 300 horses you should have beat me" Then they say "My bottle wasn't full"

You guys are forgetting that the decals add at least 5-10hp each that is the way I hear things. Just like the non turbo 300zx I raced about 2 months back. I told him I'd give him $20 if he could beat me. He asked if I had and LT1 and I said no. So he said he would spank me. Yeah, so I beat him by about 7-8 carlengths with no traction. He couldn't understand what happened other than he didn't have traction He just couldn't drive. I guess his wing and ground effects didn't add quite the hp he was expecting
