Raced a 2000 Lightning

He actually started this race on my way home to work today. Of course he throughly waxed my car but it was great. It was just awesome seeing such a big truck just fly. That thing was just gone! I could hear that supercharger whining and he was chirping the tires at every shift point. My car had no hope of beating him but I thought man I really want to see one of those got at it so I accepted the race. We met up at the next light and he said, "I thought you were fast because of the sound of your exhaust. Nice car and good race." After that he gave me a thumbs up and squealed away.

Yeah, I would have been kind of ticked too at that comment. But oh well, what do you expect from a truck that runs that quick.

Yea but was just too awed to be upset at that comment. At least he did think that my car was worthy of enough competitor to race. So that makes me feel good.

Sounds like a fun race to me. A kid I work with his father has a brand new black lightning and it's a hell of a car. And at the strip last week I can't count how many lightnings I saw destroying LT1 vettes and the modded lightnings were whooping up on c5's and some modded LS1's.

Yea exactly 91rsrider he didn't say it to put me down. I am running my cut-out open right now so it sounds like I have a built 350 under the hood. My car is loud and very aggressive sounding so he probably thought I was heavily modded and decided to have a go at me. I am just happy I was able to see a brick on wheels go as fast if not faster than a new GT Mustang. I mean that thing took off like a rocket. It was the wierdest thing I have seen, a huge truck just hauling.

it makes you wonder, when will GM wise the f*ck up and actually build a muscletruck?ya got dodge bringin out the mega heavy artillery in the V-10 srt or whatever it is,and ford has had the quick as hell lightning out for a few years(newest generation).when will they bring out a blown 8100 .now THAT would be a sweet *** ride.throw a 4.11 gear in the rear, sport suspension, and a 3.5 inch exhaust on it and hold the hell on!!!you'll be able to tow both those trucks across the finish line behind you if you decide to be nice and tell the owners not to waste their gas on even trying to keep up.screw GM.they suck and will never be a contender in the sportscar world.they have to get rid of their excuse"well we doo have the vette ".oh yeah and dodge has a truck to keep up with it,and a car that will destroy it.i love GM and will never defect to slopar or ford, but they really do have to shape up their acts and fire their bean counters.
ahhh it feels sooo gooood to vent once in a while!!

You forget GM is still ahead of the game we have a super truck. Everyone still forgets the GMC Syclone. A Lightning still can't compare to it.

Considering GMC no longer makes the typhoon or syclone and stock for the stock I believe the lightning vs a syclone would be a closer race than most think. If GM was still making these two trucks then maybe they could be compared. But as usual generous motors makes plenty of 10mpg SUV's but no real affordable muscle car.

I actually looked at the 02 Lightning. This truck is tight as he!!. It had 2 tone black and grey leather interior that I had to wipe my own saliva off of. Priced out at just under $34,000. It was very difficult not to take that baby home with me. If I remember correctly it was running somewhere around 365 to the rear and 385 to the fly. That's just insane!!!!

Why do some people drool all over vehicles such as this lightning, thats slow as hell for $34,000, when you could build something at home at the same price, that'll blow the living hell out of anything you buy new at the dealership.

nope and that's the beauty of the new car. Something breaks in it goes to the dealer and it's their problem. I wish I could afford a new car.

$34k will be more than enough to get a fully loaded 2002 WS6 Trans Am or a SS, whichever you prefer. and they run high 12s stock. theyre probably selling them at a reduced price to get rid of them, and you could use the leftover money (that you saved by not buying a Lightning) to mod the thing well into the 11s

They aren't selling SS's at a reduced price, were they limited this year, cause of the last year in production. Still, you can't diss a Lightning, they are nice trucks, sure there are cars faster, but this is a truck that will spank some nice cars.

I saw a lightining for $31k brand new. And I don't see a SS or Ws6 selling for that. They're getting some serious cash for those cars because If i'm not mistaken they made alot less of them this year. But keep in mind you can slap a pulley onto the supercharger on that lightning and some other small mods and run 12's all day long consistently. It's a dam nice truck and is probably one of the best things ford has made in a while.

What about the 454ss trucks?

Are the older 454ss trucks quick? My dad said they where not because of low compression and emissions.I am sure they would still go pretty good.

There are a couple in my town and I was just wondering.

Back when my car was still a 305 (now 350) TBI 5-speed I had a 454SS truck walk all over me on the highway. I cuised along up beside him, and we both hit it at the same time. He put a car's length between us intstantly, then let off. I'd love to see one with the 502 conversion!

Aside from the Cyclone and the 454SS, what about the new SSRs. With the 5.3L Vortecs they should move pretty good.

I got a Typhoon beating a Lightning on tape!!! A Typhoon or Syclone will win because the Lightning spins too bad off the line and they can't catch up to the top end of a Typhoon or Syclone!!!

On the street, stoplight to stoplight, syclones, and typhoons will absolutely EAT a lightning. If the owner of the typhoon has a clue about what he is doing. From a roll though, a lightning will beat a stock typhoon any day. My friend has a stock typhoon, and I have seen him eat many WS6's, ss, and lightnings from a dead stop. GM also is supposed to be making their version of a "supertruck" soon. Not only are they going to have an ssr, but they are going to have a 1500 standard cab with the 8100 LS1 based big block. Hopefully it will have some *****.

On the point of GM screwing up- they did big time. The new 50th Anniversary Corvette will come with...drumroll please...a striping package! They somehow forgot about it and tried to cover their mistake. Oh how I wished for something in the neighborhood of 500 hp to compete with the Viper and GT40- I'd like to see those 2 in a race any day!

don't worry, a vette coming to you soon will have 450 viper eating hp. I know the 2003 viper has 500 hp, but they must overrate(or gm underrates) because a new Z06 is as fast as a new 450 hp viper.

Chevy will have to do a hot rod silverado with the dodge srt-10 truck coming and the alrady badass lightning.

I've beaten 2 lightnings from 65 mph rolls right up past 100 mph. those things are amazing for the bricks that they are.

Those lightnings are awesome trucks As much as I'm a GM man I'm trying to talk my g/f into trading her 00 silverado 4x4 in for a lightning, then let me drive it

Ive always loved those trucks. Even before Ford redid the body styles in the mid 90's.

If anyone read the newest Hot Rod (may '02), they are taking a new Dodge Ram 1500 shortbed and puting a 528ci Hemi Crate engine into it. Next month they are gonna test it out.
Thats gonna have a little pep to it ..

Yea I already got that issue of Hot Rod where they test it. Did a nice burn-out for the first page pic of the article. Thing has 454 hp at the tires Plus has A/C so it is a comfortable ride.
