2001 Mustang GT vs. 88 IROC-Z
There is this guy at the local street racing scene with an '01 GT and he's always revving it and driving the car like he doesn't like it. He's pretty much an a-hole, so i want to line up a race with him since no one else wants to. I have a free modded 88 IROC 350 TPI, with 2.77 gears, 700-r4. Im thinking it might be close since both of us have automatics. Any info would be helpful as to what you guys think.

dude, if thats your best 1/8th time, your gonna get killed by a 99'+ GT. when my Vette was stock, one of my runs was 9.3 at 77 in the 1/8 which eventually turned into a 14.3 at 99. you only ran a 9.7 at 71mph? thats like a low 15 i think. id go out and practice driving before i race that stang

I agree,
You will most likely get your butt handed to ya. New GT's are fairly quick. 14.0 out of a hardtop auto is not uncommon. You car at best runs a 14.4...but judging from your 1/8 mile time maybe a little slower.
Sorry, but the fords got ya on this one.

You're going to get eaten alive. That GT should be running in the low 9's in th 1/8th at around 77 - 78 mph provided he doesn't blow the tires away on the launch.
Semi off topic, but I'm still stoked that I ran a 14.28 in a bone stock 5 speed '00 GT the very first time I ever even sat in one :lala:

Get some gears and a free flowing exhaust and it should be a different story.

I dunno...
I tested an '02 GT hardtop and it wasn't all that impressive although it was a wild *** ride without the traction control...
Completely night-and-day with the new SS ragtop I drove last year. the stang would be dog meat to the SS.

I recently raced a 02' GT in my car. He never cleared my front end and he got the jump on me off the line. I figure since you are going 88' vs. 01' rather than my 87' vs. 02' you might have a good chance.
