Not so my friend. Ford made a 390 police interceptor package that made an absolute $hit ton of power. The 396 was a lot more popular because GM produces a lot of stuff and cooperates with the aftermarket better than Ford.

Whichever is lighter, the guys carrying them play a factor and fatigue will come heavily into play. I mean if the 392 is a big block or something along those lines and the guy carrying it has to heft it around it's going to make him go down a lot faster than the guy carrying a 383. But really it comes down to the physical fitness of the two guys carrying them because strength only plays a factor in picking it up and we're assuming that both of these guys can easily lift their respective engines.
I'm sure the results would vary were the engines to be put into rolling chassis of similar weight.

Its hard to say. Fuel injected or Carbed would play a role, N/A or boosted would play a role and the cars they put them in would play a role. I have seen awesome numbers from both but of course I had to vote for the Ford, but I guess I figured wrong thinking I would be the only one!

The 396 is just a beter designed engine- hp ranged from 325 to 375- something the 390 couldn't do.
But I don't know what a **** load of power is- it had to be a hydralic cam for a cop car- and in the 60's all the biggest hp engine had a solid lifter cam.
So are we talking 390 big block or some kind of stroked Ford small block ?

392 would probably be a stroked version of a 351.
A 350 makes more torque than a 351,generally. So I'm assuming that the 383 will make more torque than a 392. This is all determined on length of stroke for each motor. It all depends how they are constructed.

Yeah, all depends on stroke vs bore... but you also have to decide if the stroked engine gets a better ET or a bored engine...
Am I thinking clearly that bore gets more Hp and stroke gets more torque?
