305??

305's are decent motors but if you are spending the money on getting one built why not spend a few xtra bucks and go with a 350 at least if not 355-383. maybe you are restoring it to original condition then I would totally understand but for a 305 to be comptetive on the street you have to throw in enough parts such as heads, intake carb etc that you might just as well go ahead and get something with a little bigger displacement.350 crate motors(the base model) are really pretty inexpensive from GM I think around $1300.00 or so and would make for a much better foundation for latter mods. my 2 cents I guess.

Some people just like to be different. 350's are like A--holes, everybodys got one Same thing with the V6's, somebody says they want to do a 2.8 build-up, and everybody says "why not just buy a 3.4". Dare to be different I guess

Who cares about being different, the point is to have power and go fast, and a 350 will produce more power than a 305 regardless. I'm not saying a 305 is junk. Oh, and this should have been posted on the Tech board.

My car in the post Approx 1\4 times is a slightly modded 305. All the mods were done before I got the car, but I agree I wouldn't have done them to a 305. I also don't want a 350 because everyone has one. What I plan is to swap to a 400sb when I can find one.

you dont want a 350 because everyone else has one? what kind of excuse is that? why do you think everyone else has a 350? it couldnt be because they make alot of power could it? nah....

wow I didn't meen to offend 2.8 or 5.0 owners lol. I have to agree with tpivette though as to "what kind of exscuse is that to not want a 350" like I said before it is a great foundation for any future mods as money permits b/c lets face it we are all not made of money right especally if you have kids. I had a 305 h.o. in my Trans Am until it locked up in my driveway (lucky ,no towing )and I think it is a great motor to have for cruising around or just having fun and those 305's are pretty durable and reliable so I am not dissing those motors but lets face it f-body's in general got their butts kicked in the 80's by Mustangs on a daily basis and the Mustangs now are not getting any slower so if you want to be competitive you better go with bigger displacement than a 305. someone said why not go with a bigblock basically, well that is alot of work going from big block to small block and the stroker motors def hold thier own so if you really want torq go with the 383. nuff said!!!!
