well acouple of my friends want to race me. one has a 2000 4cylinder eclipse, with a cai, with a sportromic/auto trans. the other guy has a 2001 eclipse GT V6, with a manual. can i beat them. what is the best way to launch wit my auto????

 

I doubt you're gonna beat the V6, but you might have a chance with the 4 cyl. I have no idea how fast they are (or aren't?).

I get my best launches right off idle. Track tested. Don't know why though.

 

You'll toast that 4cly joke (maybe 140hp?)- that V6 will win if the guy can drive

 

The 4 banger you have, the V6 is questionable. You never know in a street race though he might screw up badly and you might take him

 

no u will kill both... ive raced plenty of GT eclipses... they stay with it... but when 3rd hits... i always pull ahead the last one i raced, i didnt know he wanted to race till he i could hear his tip...and i still beat him...but, if u havent done it in a long time, get a tune up.... i raced both GT with the same sparkplugs that my dad put in 12 years ago.... yea.. so with a little tune, and some mods... u got the win... the GT runs a 15.9 in the 1/4... that is what many mags have run and when the kid i raced in ran at the track.. then we raced on the street... i was gunna race him at the track but radiator blew... long story anyway... yea u should take both...

 

Stop magazine racing A stock Eclipse v6 can hit low 15's maybe even high 14's I myself hit a 15.07 bone stock in a my 5sp v6 and I have a timeslip to prove it if you want . An automatic / sportronic v6 hits high 15's low 16's but a 5sp which is what he is racing runs alot faster.

 

Please do. And remember not all people know how to drive. There are C5 Vettes that run 14s, so the chances of an Eclipse running 14s is not that good, so you must be a good driver.

 

im not mag. racing... i street/drag raced both!! and beat them both... please read post before flamming... i mean no disrespect...but come on.... i did race Gt with 6 spd... beat (stomped) it by some distance... and the 4 is not even gunna be a question.... on another note... nice pic mark... is that from the meeting in MD... a couple of us Jersey fellas are tryin to get like 50+ cars down in south jersey... this saturday....

 

Not flaming just trying to set you guys straight about the Eclipse becuase I did read another post on this site and some people were saying the GT runs 17's which is actualy what the gs/rs run.My bad about saying you were mag racing I read what you said better and you did say thats what most mags get but also said thats what the guy at the track ran. yeah and there are those that dump the clutch at an idle and think they are going to win

 

3g.. from what ive seen.. thats the best for a stock v6 gt 5 spd ive seen.... ive raced many of gts on the street... they stay with me but like i said when 3rd rolls around.... i brake away... but i never really know if they wana race... i really cant hear there tip over my leak in my exhaust.... hehehe still passed inspection..anyway..i only know if there gunna race by the jolt off the line... then its time to push it... but hey.. good job with ur car... i really dont care for imports but i will give a guy his due when its deserved... just not your fellow ricers with the si badging i sell them at work.... and then they find me on the street tellin me that there **** is an si.... ahhh yea ok... they made a lot of thoes Si Camry... Toyota and Honda linked up... btw... the one car that ran 15.9.. had 18's and tint... soo yea... there ya go....hey well i won $20... paid for my trip to the track.... to bad not for the new alt and radiator i needed after they died/exploded

what does a tpi 305 run anyway? mid 14's stock

I would say that is a little better then the low 15 that 3g is running


that might be a reason why you start to pull away from them



another reason is ****ty drivers who do not know when to shift or don't know how to launch. or hell maybe just don't even have a GT to start with and all they are packing in there is a I4 ???

 

nah the one car i raced that some ran a 15.9... he can drive... not the best.. but hes not another teenager...anyway... i raced him on the street... and i had him all the way... but i always see gt's.. the one i was talkin about when i pulled away on him was def. a gt...i think it was a 2003.. my brother said that he saw the temps... i dunno it was a stick or auto.. or semi-auto.. but it had a nice tip... and the guy had his gf in the car.... but he jumped and i caught up at around 2nd and when 3rd hit... i slowly pulled away... and then he cut out... i could tell when he cut out.. it was like he just flat out stopped.. but i dunno i think my 305 is a freak... i have beat some "fast" cars... rsx-s, eclipse gt, as well as other domestics... Stang GT's. both the rsx-s and Eclipse GT only have 200 hp and 20lbs/ft....one is deffently way heavier then the other... i didnt know they eclipse could go run low 15/high 14s... i thought they were a heavy car... i asked a lot of people and they flat out said my car would win.... and hey...

 

The 3g Eclipse is a very heavy car but its not as slow as everyone thinks it is its pretty quick, not slow, but not the fastest thing out there. Yea the eclipse is hevier than the rsx-s but it alot easier to launch, and it gets it power at lower rpm's than the rsx-s. The rsx-s you have to have it in its iv tec **** to get the power out of it were in the Eclipse you dont cause it has some torque(notice the word some)which of course is better for 1/4 mile, but the rsx-s will hand me my *** in top end(yes prob even 1/4 if driven rite ) . I have a Fed Spec 3g GT they were only made in 2000 and have five extra HP than the ones made in 2001+.Im sure that made me a little quicker.

 

The DSM died when they stopped putting turbo motors in them.

 

Nope sorry but DSM died in 1995 .They died when Diamond Star Motors (DSM) changed to Mitsubishi Manufactors of America :rockon: . But I still consider 95-99 Eclipses DSM's like everyone else (even tho there not).
