1988 Gta 5.7 L98

Hey whats up you all....I am new to this forum....I use to have a 1994 CPI 4.3 Vortec S10 Blazer, then I had an 85 S10 Blazer with a 350, I am now the proud owner of a 1988 GTA WS6 Trans Am with a SuperChip and SLP Runners, and they guy who sold it to me said he had something ported about a plenum.....I have not taken my car to the 1/4 mile track yet because I need a transmission mount and want to get it runnin right....as far as I know all the car has in it is a Superchip and at it shifts at 6000 RPM at WOT. I have raced my friends 1995 Auto LT1 Z28 with a good driver behind the wheel and I was about a fender and half ahead of him...I have also raced a couple 5.0's without even knowning they were racing me until my friends told me they had hammered the throttle. I love the feeling of launching out of 1st and spiinin tire all 1st and 2nd then grabbin in 3rd and watchin the RPM's rise so fast.....my future plans for the car are to get headers, probably Hooker, a new tranny mount, Air Foil, SLP Cold Air Intake and a FPR to run at 50 PSI. I hope to get somewhere in the low 14's....well thats it for now....LATERs...AARON

Welcome, and very nice car too.

Though I think you're wasting your time shifting at 6k with TPI and stock cam. Though it has been ported to flow a little better, I doubt to 6k and the cam stops power before that.

got any pics?

sounds like your maybe already into the very low 14's!!

with your upcoming mods you will definitely be into the 13's!

Wow 6k, I rev up to 5200 or 5300rpms before shifting. I probably got maybe 100rpms of porting my stuff but yea man, if your beating an LT1 by a fender and a 1/2 you should definately be low 14s. Nice car, tho since my buddy bought an 89 Formula 350 G92 I fell in love with those.

6k rpms on basically stock TPI is pretty brutal. nice sounding car have fun with it, and 14's shouldnt be hard to get to at all.

be careful! TPI motors redline at 5500rpms, after that you could experience valve float and seriously damage your engine

Yes I wouldn't go past 5500rpms, MAX. After last winters tear down of the stock valved edelbrock heads and some heavy 6k blasts I found that the valve machine was telling me that ALL but 3 of my valves were warped. Take it easy, as noted, they run out of air at 4800-5200rpms usually.

Yeah I think you should put your mind on hitting low 13s not low 14s.
