I saw this green car with the green LED windshield washers nad green side markers getting on the freeway behind me. waited for him to pull up and saw that it was a second gen eclipse. we rode side by side for some time waiting to make sure there was no traffic and the only car around was behind us so I slowed down saw wht it was then caught back up. as is normal for me I let him make the first move and he took off got his bumper even with my front tire and I gunned it from 70 up to 80-85 I put half a car between his bumper and mine. and we did this for quite a few times. when I put that distance there I let off let him catch back up then gunned it again and same results over and over.

the only time I thought I might lose I was slow on the uptake and he pulled about a car and a half on me before I did anything with a car comming up in my lane. I started again at 80mph and by the time I hit 100 I was able to get in fron of him to avoid the car comming up in a safe manner.and slow down to speed by the time we passed the car. I don't think he backed off being that was the first time he even was able to get ahead of me and with how loud my car is I am sure he heard me at WOT and saw that I wasn't giving in.


the only thing that sucked is I was using 4th gear on most the runs 3rd is good up to about 90mph or so (Even with a 4.10 rear) though on the last one I had to use 4th.....

what's up though with this I figured it wasn't a turbo but shouldn't it have been him pulling a lot more then that?

If ignorance is bliss, you must be the happiest man on earth. Give props to a car if it's fast, doesn't matter who makes it. DSMs are made in Normal IL so it's as American as Mom and Apple Pie. Hell, chyrsler owns at least half of that car.

The 2nd gen eclipse is one hell of an *** kicker if you get it optioned right. The GS has the Chrysler engine and can't get out of it's own way. The GSTs and GSXs have the turbo 2.0 Mitsu engine and start out at 210 hp. Add a boost controller and you can start pushing 250. Upgrade the IC piping and intercooler and you're looking at 270. Dished pistons to lower the CR and a 1st gen head and you're looking at 300 hp on the stock turbo. A GT 30 or bigger TC is a direct bolt on and after that you can put up some insane power numbers. The stock bottom end is good for at least 350 maybe 400 hp. The weak link is in the drivetrain. If you start buying Lancer parts from Japan then you can get real crazy. The Lancer engine spins backwards, so if you want that drivetrain you need the lancer engine too, which is far superior to the stock DSM. Well, that's my rant. Later

 

you can get an eclipse over 100

I have taken a slow as **** first gen eclipse to over 120. though with the gearing the motor is soon to peak out.

a junk eclipse might be a stock one but either version with a turbo and even better for a stop light race is a AWD turbo.
have you messed with a turbo car before? they are WAY TOO EASY to play with and make power. I figured N/A like this one had to have been are not the fastest (though figured it would be more of a fight then this) but again with a turbo they can be easy fast. I raced on at the local track once
he only ran a 15.02 but it was at 102mph so he must have had one hella bad launch and that is what it sounded like. there is also a 12 second one in the are as well....

but you are right about this one atleast... basic rice type that wasn't all that fast

Man, my old Ford Escort LX 4 door with 1.9L and 88 hp did 110 one time. Exaggerating is one thing, but this is a little too far. I don't like the cars, but they still deserve a little respect.

My sis's RS is the slowest car i've ever driven....

but my buddy's 1st gen GSX run's low 13's with very little work.

I'm pretty sure the good folks at C/D know a little bit more about cars than you and that their test results are real. And besides, you're just butthurt due to all the BS people call on you. I, for one, know my v6 is slow, and dont manifest my denial about it by claiming that it runs a low-15 second quarter mile. I dare say that the naturally aspirated version is sbout as fast, if not quicker, than your 2.8L, and that the turbo AWD version would blast you into the weeds.

oh ya Camaro_1986_19 doesnt your 2.8 do 15.1 in the 1/4 a eclipse would smoke your ***...there is no way in hell that 2.8 does 15.1..even if it did a stock turbo eclipse would take it.

I know that my car doesn't hold it's own very well in a race, yet I still thoroughly enjoy coming here and talking with people. If everyone here really makes you so upset, find some other way to occupy your time. In any case, to stay on topic, RX7Speed, maybe you caught him in an off-peak part of his powerband, you know, starting to experience power falloff in one gear, but still not fast enough to be really pulling in the next gear higher. 210 hp isn't shabby, but it's really not going to foster top-gear acceleration, especially once you start creeping up on triple-digit speeds.

 

Unless its the front wheel drive which if it is will do alot better than the awd on top end

There nothing really wrong with imports, it's rice that pisses me off. Though I would rather own an American V8 over any import, but still some imports have to be given respect.
