Modded Harley puts up a good fight but goes down

Coming out of the cruise-in at Dairy Queen on Rt. 5 tonight, there was a modded Harley in front of me. I'm not sure what all was done to it, but I'm assuming by the run it gave me that it had a little somethin done....He pulled out into the right lane first and then I pulled out right behind him in the left lane as he waited for me. So at about 25 mph he punches it and then I follow right after. By the top of 1st gear I had put 2 cars on him, and then by the top of 2nd I had about 5 cars on his before I shut off and he went flying by. I'm sure that must have been a pretty good show for all the folks still sitting in the DQ parking lot.

motorcycles don't wiegh anything close to a mustang.

Harley w/rider.............maybee 1000 pounds

thirdgen with driver.............maybee 3200 pounds

as you can see by my simplified diagram, it doesn't take much to get a bike going!

a kill is a kill though.

Modded Harley is a huge statement
it could have been anything you where racing there, like one of those huge barges on wheels that can't do squat on the road.
BTW i have no idea what mine does, havn'e found to many cars to go head to head with.
a slighty modded lighter bike runs in the 13.s i beleve, like a sportster
biker
anyway
good kill

Harleys are slow.

Stock Yamaha V-max 1200 1/8 mile time 7.6

They don't allow the bikes to launch into the air so this time could be way better if an all out effort were made.

This beat the fastest Street Harley's time by a almost a second.

wanna talk about fast bikes? Suzuki Hayabusa... its basically a 1300 GSXR with a little more weight. ive seen a bunch of these bad a$$ bikes at my local track, and all of them were in the 9s! 2 actually raced side by side and rode wheelies all the way to the eight mile! both ran low nines at almost 130mph. it impressed me so much, i had to get one

"wanna talk about fast bikes? Suzuki Hayabusa.."

take away two of its cylinders and then lets see how fast it is.

v-twins and inline 4s are like apples n oranges. Yamaha is the king of twins. But Suzuki has allways been the king of inline 4s.

Harley's aren't built to go fast. See, they do something besides buzz . I like fast bikes too, but like you said about the V-twin and I-4 being apples and oranges, so is a Harley and a Yamaha or Suzuki, they're two totally different machines, with different purposes.

Having worked at a performance Harley shop (Ganno's Machine, now located in Pelham, NH) I have seen some pretty fast Harley's!! including their custom made drag bike that's like third in it's class nation wide....last itme I checked. that thing is tweaked and has holes drilled in it, aluminum everything, light as a feather! it does like a 6 sec 1/4 or some crazy ^%$&^%$

Biker thrash dude, you live in Hampton, are you my next door nieghbor? (white house occasional parties, blue toyota, honda accord and chevy blazer on the lawn).....and formerly my '84 T/A....R.I.P.

Judging by how this one did, I'd estimate it to be a high 12-low 13 second bike.

Is it so lonely owning a ford you must hang out with Thirdgen’s to have someone to talk too?

Uhh...I don't know if that was intended as an insult or not, but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt in this case. I hang out here because I like anything that's fast regardless of who makes it or what country it comes from.

to clear up something here... V twins are not slow...

most Ducati's are V twins
so are most European bikes...

suzuki has a TL1000R ..looks similar to the GSXR1000
thats a V twin...

hell i have a V4 ...and its no way slow...
it only sounds different than most superbikes..

Good kill Nic..

Who ever said Harleys are slow doesn't know what they are talking about.... STOCK ones are slow, but fast enough to beat most of what is out there. I have been to bike shows in Los Angeles where they line um' up on the dyno.....

Slow??? What do you guys think 160 horsies at the back wheel of a 950 lb bike does in the quarter???? I agree that Harleys are made to look cool more than go fast. In comparison to Crotch Rockets, Yes they are slow.

Good kill Nic, I raced one with my 91RS back when it ran low 14's with the TBI, he put up quite a fight but still couldn't pass me. (He was weaving in and out of cars on a 2 lane road trying to pass everyone, I saw him about 10 cars back and let her loose) He got within 3 cars. So if we would have started everly, I woulda been toast. What is slow, I thought 13's and better was pretty fast??? Or is it just Me???

Good kill Nic, variety is fun sometimes eh??

I never meant they were slow, nor did I say that. All I meant was that compared to a buzz-bike, the Harleys are built for a different purpose, so it isn't really a fair comparison (stock for stock). And its ridiculous to compare bikes to cars, quick bikes have more horsepower than stock LO3's, with no weight at all.

Harleys are very similar to rice in the fact that a bone stock, no options Hd will cost 20+grand and then take another 5-10 to chrome and customize to make it fast.

Guy at work got a new/used HD that some guy bought while he was waiting for the one he odered. guy paid 18,000 for the HD and it was covered with cheap [warped] plastic that was suspose to simulate a leather tank bra.

For the money you spend, HDs are slow. unless you can bank roll 50+ grand for a custom built bike like from jesse james.

big problem with HDs are they are a true v-twin which has the major draw back of both rods must connect to the same crank journal. Yamaha figured that out in the 80s on the Virago.
