so i was coming out of a Wawa parking lot when i noticed the headlights of a 1st gen Eclipse riding my butt. i had to make a left turn at the upcoming light, and got into one of the turning lanes... and he turned into the one next to me. Cool, im gonna roast this Eclipse! its not even a turbo (i didnt see any badging). well the light was taking forever to turn green, and the import was rocking back and forth, i guess he was letting me know it was a stick. one of the times he went forward a little, i noticed it had GS-T badging on the rear bumper. i also noticed he had a few pillar mounted gauges as well. ok, the stakes just got higher.
light turned green. he nails it around the turn, and i wait to complete it. at about 20mph he was a good 2 or so car lengths ahead and i nailed the gas. after a few short seconds i was passing him and my girlfriend waved goodbye as we flew by. i shut the Vette down at 100 or so and had at least 10 lengths or more by this time. he rode my *** for awhile and then turned off. not too bad for a low reving L98 huh? hes lucky we didnt go from a stop

great story man. just about 2 months ago I was at a light waiting to get on the interstate and low and behold some triked out honda and a chumpstang pull up next to me .Both of the cars were slammed w/ neon, subs boomin, strobes, and stickers.I was just a sittin there in my 'roc jamming to W.A.S.P.(If you can remember those fellas). next thing I know is the light turned green and this F'n honda wing and all was chirping tires and winding out along with his little buddy in the missstang so i saud what the F*** and nailed it sha turned a little squirrley around 20 mph or so and snapped back in and byt third gear I was reading the stangs liscense plate thru my rearview mirror and the honda was doing whatever hondas do when they just got filled with the smoke from my tires. kinda gives new meaning to my vanity plate which reads "302-WHO"

Here's a story from the other side:
About 2 months ago I was heading out to a local ice-cream place to have a bite to eat and hang out with some friends. I was third in a line of cars at a stoplight...when the light went green, I heard the squealing of tires and noticed the tail end of a 4th gen Corvette squatting and pulling hard down the road.
As traffic cleared, I worked my way next to the Corvette (which was cruising at 5 over the limit). It was a red 300hp LT1 (four squarish taillights, wraparound front corner markers), but I'm not certain if it was an auto or a 6-speed. I gave him a bit of BOV, and he immediately made a jump. Unfortunately, traffic wouldn't allow us to have a real run, so I bided my time and stayed close.
Eventually, we made our way past the mall and all of the eateries that surrounded it, and found ourselves on a nice, straight, clear 4-lane. We lined up from about 30 mph and took off...unfortunately we had to abort this run because a vehicle pulled out ahead from the last gas station for miles.
We lined up from around 40 mph the second time, and there was nothing ahead but the road. I left the car in 2nd gear and waited for him to make the move. When I heard his motor go WOT, I punched it and tried to hold the steering wheel straight (YAY TORQUE STEER!) I pulled almost two car lengths on the 'Vette by the time I hit 100, then I decided that I'd pressed my luck enough and backed out. The Corvette braked about the same time that I did, and did NOT pull a fly-by. As I brought my cruising speed back down to the legal limit, he slowly drove past (but did not look over).
I pulled a U-turn at the first opportunity, and went back to my original destination. A couple of friends had seen the Corvette taking off with me in pursuit, and asked if I'd gotten a race...at which point I recounted this story to them.
Before anyone decides to call BS on me, I was trapping at 102 mph in the 1/4 a couple of mods ago...my current 1/8 trap speeds suggest that I should be hitting at least 104-105 mph now.

I would have thought a 300 horsepower Vette would own your AWD *** on the topend but i believe you.

perhaps it was an L98 Vette? the 91' got the newer style body, but still had the TPI motor. the only real way to tell without looking under the hood is by the exhaust tips. the L98 had 2 round tips on each side, where the LT1 had a single rectangular tip on each side. if you were able to oull a LT1 on the top end, you must really have something under the hood!

He said that the tail lights were squarish. I don't think that the L98's tail lights were. I know that my dad's LT1 were squarish (with kinda rounded off corners.Originally posted by tpivette89

If it was a LT1 Vette perhaps he had ASR on. That stupid crap kills performance. I leave it off most of the time.
You must have a really modded Talon to beat one. I never even lost to one in my T/A.

For those who are interested, my mods are listed on my cardomain website listed below in my signature. I'm 99% certain that it was an LT1. I wouldn't think that traction control would pull that much power from a 40 mph roll, but I don't own a Corvette and I don't know that. I've beaten several LT1 Camaros with slightly less boost at the racetrack while we were both running on street tires. I'm sorry that some of you find it hard to believe, but I assure you that I'm not making this stuff up.

Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't torque steer still occur in an AWD vehicle, albiet to a lesser extent? I could very much be wrong here, but I figure if there are drive wheels up front, they can cause torque steer. Could someone clear that up for me?Originally posted by CobraKiller

Well, I've driven several stock/mildly-modded (i.e. similar mods to my own) AWD DSM's and none of them exhibited even a hint of torque steer. I don't know whether this is attributable to the AWD, to the fact that AWD's come with equal length halfshafts and FWD's don't, or to some combination of the two.Originally posted by FyreLance

What's really frightening/exciting is when you punch the throttle in the first two gears and the torque steer pulls the car right and only the passenger's side front wheel breaks loose at the same time (no limited slip yet). The car seriously tries to put you into the right-hand curb...you have to steer the car sort of to the left for a while until things calm down in order to keep going straight in your lane.
This the main reason I don't let many people drive my vehicle...if an oblivious driver romped on it in 1st or 2nd gear, they might put the car into a curb or another car. I understand that a limited slip cures a lot of this, and I'm looking forward to getting one in the very near future.

I know how you feel. When I had my SHO although it wasn't heavily modded it was pretty quick. In the mid 14's or so, and when I'd get on it the car would pull you all over the place. That one reason i don't even like racing powerful FWD cars. I raced a SHO with a supercharger one time in the firehawk and he had so much torque steer he almost came into my lane. And as far as the torque steer and AWD. I drive my friend's '02 WRX atleast once a week and when I get into it the car goes nice and straight. No torque steer.

For torque steer you usually have to spin the tires, which takes a LOT on an AWD car. Even so, I've gotten the wheels spinning in my 95 Eclipse GSX and have yet to feel any torque steer.Originally posted by FyreLance
