Out of Curiousity And Boredom...
I'm helping my uncle move. Had some stuff loaded up in the Crown Victoria. He had some stuff in his 79 Caprice 4dr 305/350. And all of a sudden I wondered: Could I take him in a race?
His car is a
1979 Chevy Caprice 4dr
305 v8 2bbl --all stock, running very well
350 turbo
probably has very crappy gears
3800 lbs, 3950 with him in it.
My car is at the bottom. 3.08s are not exactly drag racing gears, but I can tolerate them. My car weighs about the same, but I way more, so that will give him a slight weight advantage.
I'm going to get my car running good and who knows, maybe we can find a descent place to race. Maybe I'll get it on video. You don't mind a long video, do you? 17 seconds, minimum.

I say take them to the track, fill them with crap (just like you said when moving him) and race them in the 20's and get kicked out!!! That would be great to have a 20 second slip, and bragging rights!
I saw that once at the local tracks here. Two 70's looking Toyota Corollas lined up. They looked like someone just drove them off the $77 car lot. The car in the left lane won with a 22.5 compared to the other who slapped down a flat 24. Both of them promptly got kicked off the track lol.
At some of my local tracks, they have high school bracket racing sometimes.
I once saw a toyota van (the kind with the flat front) running a dail in of 20.0...and they let him run it all day long.
I think he even made it into the 3rd round. Seeing him try to do a burnout was priceless.

Hey, they're not that slow.
This is what I have to work with right now. So I do what I can.
No, we're probably both in the 17s or 18s. If that's bad enough to get kicked out...hey, it's not that bad. If this car was painfully slow, that is dangerously slow...I wouldn't have it. But this is a slow race, I understand. I am very curious as to wich is faster. I think his is slightly more powerful, slightly more torque, but I think I have better gears. Those Caprices/Impalas had terrible gears in 83, I know.
Anyway...driving cars like these is a thrill in itself. It's kind of hard to describe. Imagine driving a mint condition car from the 40s. It would still be sort of fun. Even though the car would have to be slow by today's standards.
Anyway, thanks for replying.

i didn't know they kickd people off the track for running slow, that's funny. MY friend wanted to run his 94 Corolla with a filter and he would have been kicked off. I knew they kicked you out if you broke i think 11's without a cage. That really is funny. My track might not do it though.

Well, generally, Crown Victorias can't support alot of weight. So I could probably load up 6 people, fill the trunk and put 14 inch tires on and run 20s.
That's kind of retarded though.
If I get this Mustang that I'm looking at, I could get kicked out twice. One for too fast and one for too slow (loading down the Crown Vic).

At the track near me, Capitol Raceway, to my knowledge you cannot get kicked out for running too slow. They have a T&T (Test & Tune) every Friday night. The staging lanes open at 5 PM, and close at 10PM; but racing stops at 11PM regardless of if anyone is still in the staging lanes (sound laws).
If you run a 13.99 or better, you need to have a certified helmet. If you run 11.99 or better, you need to have a roll cage.
I've seen cars run 20s+ all night long, and not get kicked out. I don't mind either - they just want to have fun, ya know?

Cool, man, I agree. At least I'm planning on improving the 302. Here's a few things that I have planned, but it can be summed up just by saying, "It will have almost the same exact work done on it, as the 403." Why? I curiou as to which one will have better hp and torque numbers. The Crown Vic will never hit the 13s because of its weight and making it that fast would affect the feel it has now. Anyway:
650-700 cfm 4bbl
.030 over
270/280, 204/214 cam or 280/290, 214/224
headers and duals
maybe some kind of work to the heads
3.23 or 3.42 gears
c4 tranny with shift kit and cooler
BFG tires
It will never be THAT fast, but it will make a good sleeper anyway. I trying to talk my Uncle into suping his Caprice up in the future. His engine would be an LG4, right?
