got a question.

a guy i work with has a ford sho. not sure which year it is though. he said it had 190 horsepower stock and that he added a cold air intake and exhaust to it and that it bumped the horsepower up to 275. i dont think cold air intake and exhuast would add that much but i could be wrong. is he right or wrong on that figure? i have a 350. the only thing that i have done to it is a edelbrock carb. i dont knowwhat was done to it before i got it. would i be able to beat him?

Kinda hard to tell how quick your 350 would be without cam/exhaust and head specs.

It wouldn't add that much horsepower with those two things, but it will add some and if you have a smogger 350 in your camaro, I doubt you will keep up with him....

The definition of a smogger 350 is a 350 outta the era of 73-up to about 84. It means that it has a horrible cam, horrible heads and horrible exhaust manifolds. In those years they most commonly produced 160-180hp and 280-300ft-lbs of torque.

oh. the motor came out if a 69 car. i found the block number on it and went to a chev dealer and they told me what year it was. i think the guy who had it before me put a different cam in it. cuz whe nhe had it in his blazer it sounded kinda lumpy but he did have headers on it and i dont have headers. oh well. lol
thanks for the info.

the SHO is probably a 94 or 95, but those two mods would only give it maybe 225 hp. They run mid 15's stock, so he could be as low as low 15's now. If you have a stock L98 you should be set, but if you have the smogger mentioned before you'll need some work first. Good luck, those SHO's can be quick. They're still FWD though.

wow what year was that vette and what the hell was the matter with them....the way you describe your engine it doesnt sound like it has a hell of a lot of horse to it.....older engines didnt come with too much horse....but if you did more power to ya...maybe it was a rare 83 vette

Oh g^od not this topic again. I seem to remember a few members vehemtly clinging to the fact that they had seen an '83 Vette on the street. Of course you could be like one member who always get flamed and say that you saw one race.

you probably have 2.73 gears then from an 84 LG4. They really suck. With bigger gears you would have an even better chance in the race because you'd destroy him off the line. The 3.08 gears were an option then i believe, but they weren't as common. Do you have posi, and how hard is it to spin those rubbers? Probably not hard with a torquey 69 350, especially if you're open. The most common gear for the 82-86 LG4's was the 2.73 open and you will just sit there and spin if that's what you got.

I think you'll kill him. Gears would help...but only to add some more carlengths between you two.

Yeah you were a good race. After I dropped in the LS8 and a 7 spd, not much of anything can take my '83 Vette on the street. I am starting an '83 Corvette Car Club if anyone wants to join, you are welcome to.

Sure, we even have a guy with a 2005 SS joining the club. Do you have the LS9 or the super experimental LS10?

yes the vin code for the gear will be there, but i don't know the specific code. You can ask on the drivetrain board or the VIN section of the site.

Yeah man im rocking the super experimental LS10...although the LT8 was producing well enough but GM decided on the LS10 you know because the camshaft is better crafted and just overall performs better...its got the brand new WS8 package and the optional FAHQ2 package...you know the one where when you flash the hazards to show you one spells out a special message in the tail lights...dude gotta love that....all that with the money i sold my celebrity with...gotta love the celebrity though blown 454 rearwheel drive conversion with the spoiler not only on the back of the car but sticking out of the hood you know for that extra aerodynamics and all....but the stickers gave my car an extra hundred horse power....later man

No you need to check your SPID in your center console (if it's still there) or find your build sheet.

I've seen an 83 vette...there is 1 (the only one produced) at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green...I can't remember the color...but it was weird seeing the only 1 of a car like that...

GM spent most of 82-83 designing the new body style for the Corvette. The only survivng prototype 83 Corvette is at the museum. All the others were either destroyed or lost. There were no 83 Corvette's available to the public. They were never sold.

the 83 Corvette prototype was the first to look like the late 80's corvette's. The 84-95? style. I think 95 was the last year of that style. the 82 had the stingray style and then in 84 the new Corvette was available to the public. The 83 in the museum looks exactly like the 84 because it was the 84's prototype. I'm no expert so hopefully someone can back me up with some actual facts.
