his torque will get you off the line, unless he has s.h.i.t.t.y gears like you said, if he has 3.42s like you he will take you, cause he doesnt weigh much more than you...

I think it won't be close at all. You'll burn him out of the hole by atleast a car length, then keep on walking him. That's my projection.

i think because of the torque difference that he will take you off the line.

A friend of mine had an '86 Old Cutlass. This car was in MINT condition. I swear to you it looked like a brand new car! Thing was it was slow. Those 307's just have no nut. He took it to the track and ran a 17.7 with it.

3rd Gens have a 21 gallon fuel tank!! That's huge! My Mustang has a 12 gallon tank and my Lincoln has an 18 gallon tank

I raced him.

Pulled up beside him at the lights and launched. I Took 1 car on him off the line.

He tried Again at the next light, Spanked him again.

Then we went to the highway and raced from a roll.

45km/h roll.

It was tied for a while then I gained half a fender on him, then let off going about 150km/h.

HE tried to say he won and I let off cause he was gonna win! LOL!!!
haha.

I even have it on tape and that proves I won.

Ps. I let off because I have bald tires and I dont trust them at that high of speed.

Good kill. He would have eventually beat you at speed after you ran out of gears.

I had an '83 Buick LeSabre with the 307 V-8 and TH350 transmission. Don't know what the gear ratio was, but it's a sure bet it was pretty crappy. The engine was rated 150 hp and 260 lbs.ft. of torque and had the 3317 heads (I think that's the correct number) which the newer ones from '84 and later were different. I test drove an '85 or '86 Cutlass Supreme with the 307, and it felt like a dog compared to mine. Which reminds me, I think the torque rating you listed for it is off. I think they were rated at around 240-245 lbs.ft. for '84 and later.

By the way, I only had two modifications to it (if you can call these mods), a K&N airfilter and secondary butterfly stop filed to get the full 750 cfm out of the Quadrojet (big improvement compared to the 500 something cfm it was restricted to).
