4.3 Blazer

Okay, I know that things have slowed down some here, but I actually got into a race the other night in my 85 T/A. I was comming home from work, and when I got on the last major road, HWY 62, I see this black newer Blazer 2 door, 2 wheel drive, that had been lowered, run the redlight that I was stopped at. He was turning across traffic, the direction that I was going. I thought to myself, well if I catch him, I'll see if he wants to race. About a mile from my turn, he is right in front of me, and I see him tap his breaks and then take off. I let him go twice, then I got right beside him just before my turn, and figured, why not....I kept going straight. I was next to him, and we slowed to about 50, then he hit it. The car downshifted into 2nd, as he was a fender infront of me. It didn't take me long to catch him, and at about 80, his front tire was by my back tire, and he gave up. I backed out of it, and turned around to go home, with the knowledge that he had been taught that his Blazer wasn't as fast as he thought.

Car Type

The car is an 85 T/A. It's an LB9 auto that's bone stock (not even an exhaust). She's quick enough, for now......

What is the difference between the LG4 and the LB9?

well, the LG4 is a carbed 305 for starters. it was the base engine for all z28 camaros and irocs until it was replaced by the L03 305 (TBI) in 88. The LB9 (TPI 305) came out in 85. it produced 215 hp this year in both manual and auto form due to the larger cam, which is the same cam used in L98 equipped cars. in 86, the LB9 got the peanut cam, which reduced its hp output to 190. once the g92 option became available on the LB9 t5 combo, its hp rose up to 215 again.

Thanks for the info - I had been wondering about those for awhile. Does a TBI have an advantage over carbs?

nope, its the opposite. carbs have much more of an advantage over TBI. TBI really has to aftermarket and the LG4 is easier to work on than an LO3.

I raced an older blazer (pre 94 style) once on the freeway in my 90 RS with a L03. We started at like 65mph and I got passed at around 95mph. I was like I later found out the blazer had a LT1 swap. Pretty cool!!

If that is the case, whey would they make TBI engines instead of just carbed ones?

because everyones all about EFI now.....plus i think TBI gets a little better gas mileage than a carb.

Emissions regulations. I'd advise against listening to anyone trying to say that tbi is better than carb for anything but gas mileage and "reliabliity" (can't break stuff if you can't go fast, right? ) TBI belongs in trucks not performance cars.

I know this is really off topic, but what are the major differences betweeen EFI, TPI, MPFI, and Cross Fire Injection? Fuel is one are I know the least about.

well, EFI is a broad term that refers to all types of electronic fuel injection. in fact, thats what it stands for. TPI is a batch fire dry manifold system. all injectors on one side fire at the same time. TPI just means that the runners are tuned for a certain RPM range. SFI is what the LT1's and the LS1's use. this is where the injectors are placed behind the intake valves and spray independently whenever the intake valve opens. im not sure exactly how MPFI works, but its some kind of EFI. Cross fire injection is kinda like 2 TBI's arranged diagonally on an intake manifold, except the one on the left feeds the right side and the one on the right feeds the left side. it really was the worst induction system ever. it was stopped after 2 years because of all the problems with it, especially starting in the cold.
