Hehehehe, once.
The cop was NOT in a cruiser, but he flashed his badge at me (dressed in civvies), rolled his window down, and yelled at me to pull over as we were parked at a light.

Basically what happened, was I was SPEEEEDING past him, and he cut RIGHT in front of me on a 2 lane (each way) road. I guess to physically stop me from speeding. I rode his @ss (not yet knowing he was a cop), and honked my horn at him. He moved over to let me by, tried chasing me, caught up to me at the next red light, then did the badge flashing crap.
When the light turned green, I stomped on it, he tried to chase me (he was in a 2nd gen Ford Escort! Good luck!), but I totally left him behind.
About a day later, I got a phone call from (presumably the same guy) a cop, questioning me to see if I was driving my car at the time, then telling me that he was taking actions to get my license taken away.

I let my anger get the best of me, and I did my best LOUD stage laugh, and hung up on him. He called back (I didn't pick up), but my license never got taken away.

they can't pull you over unless they have visible lights and an audible siren. he could radio his buddy and tell him that there's somebody speeding around, and they can give you a ticket.

but when a cop is off duty, i don't think there is much they can do, but if there is, they've got 30 days...

a cop is never off duty,
trust me.
If he gets you to stop, even if he doesn't have any reds and blues, he can still write you a ticket.
trust me......
he can get his buddy to stop you, but he can (and usually has to be the one) write you because he was the one that saw you do what ever you did......

Depends on the state. Some don't allow unmarked cars to make traffic stops because of people pretending to be cops and pulling people over. Here though in NY, they can stop you.

Well this prolly will get locked but i have to tell my story.

First of all my friend and I were seventeen at the time, so we were pretty stupid a year ago. Well we were getting ready to teepee our World Cultures teacher, and a state cop drove by and did a quick u-turn so we hopped in a VW jetta(very stupid mistake, and it was my friends car) and the other kids took of in a grand am. I was driving and we went about a mile to two miles and i decided to pull over and take my chances. I got really lucky that night, my assistant wrestling coach is a state cop so I had met the two cops before. So they ended up not giving us a ticket because they knew me, and since we didnt teepee any one, we didnt break the law. I never felt so lucky that night, and I will never will run from the cops again, well atleast in a Jetta

I do know this: He can't get you for speeding without it being on the radar. My guess is this guy WAS NOT a cop. He's a fake. I think someone put him up to harassing you. Do you know for certain that he's a cop?

Well, he probably wouldn't have written me a speeding ticket if he pulled me over. It probably would have been "Reckless Driving" or "Stunting."

I'm pretty sure he was a cop. His badge looked real, and I'm guessing he wasn't just flashing it at me to get a reaction.

When he called my house, he introduced himself as Constable So-and-so (I can't remember his name) of the RCMP (mounties. The Canadian policemen with the hats). I was certainly convinced.

i ran twice this past summer, because i like to cruise at about 70 in the 'maro. i was about 2 minutes from my house going around a corner when a cop was coming around the corner the opposite way at about the same time. well i was doing 60 in a 40 so he flashed his lights expecting me to pull over and wait for him , instead i pulled down the next road and did 80 the whole way to my house and i never saw him.
the second time, was the same place except this time a cop was hiding on this street just before the turn. i caught a glimpse of him as i went by, so i stomped on it and went down the same road as before doing the same thing and again never saw him.

i think they can get you for speeding without the radar. this guy i used to work with was goin something like 115 on a highway that was a 65, and a cop was just staying up to speed with him. this guy was an idiot so he wasnt paying attention to see if any cops were around. he said he got a ticket for it. but i dont know the laws for different states.

they cant get you or speeding if they dont radar you, but they'll probably try and get you for something else.

I was leaving school for lunch one day, going over to a friends house. We turn down this one street and off of one of the side streets there is a city cop that works for the school who lives right beside the main street. anyway, his cruiser is always parked out by the street, so I didnt think anything of it and kept on going, going about 45 in a 25. Just as I'm about to turn down my friends street, I look up and here comes the cop hauling *** down the road, lights blazing, right up on my ***. So I pull over and he makes me get out and ****, asking me if I want to go to jail and all this crap, just giving me a hard time basically. Anyway, he finally says he knew I was going atleast 45 because he had to go 50 something to catch up to me and that he couldn't give me a ticket because he didn't have his radar on. I was pissed because he took up most of my lunch lecturing me about speeding through "his" neighborhood.

ONE TIME. That was enough.

We were streetracing a couple years ago in Dallas, and I was racing this dude in my old DSM. As we went, a cop pulled outta nowhere and chased us. I cut into a parking lot behind the other guy I was racing, getting ready to pull over, and there were 40 other cars trying to get away. I was all "we're focked!" and my girl was all "no way! go now!". I looked up and saw a truck get between me and the cop in the lot, and I hammered it into 2nd, pegged the boost gauge, hit a gap, turned down like 4 side streets in this industrial sector, and jumped on the freeway doing 80 all the way home.

OMG, what a rush. I'll never do that again, man....but it was a helluvan experience....

Well, here's mine. I've only done it once, I was 17, and didn't have my licence yet, but my step father let me use the truck with a friend that had his license. We ended up going to the high school parking lot and doing burnouts, and doughnuts in his 1995 Dakota with the 318 in it. We stopped and got out looking at the tire marks, and here comes what looked like an unmarked. I was like oh $hit. We got in the truck and took off like a bat outta h3ll. Doin' 60 down a road designed for 35 max, with the gas to the floor. Now that I think about it, I was luck that I didn't loose control of the truck (that would've sucked!!!). We hit the main road, and got in with the traffic for the change shift at one of the factories, and hid in the parking lot for 15 min. We went home after that, and didn't ever hear anything about it.

there are times a cop can pull you over for speeding when he doesn't have a radar.
1. in some states (PA is one) the local cops can't use radar (only state) so one way of getting your speed is to pace you. to do this the cops car's speedo has to be calibrated (most are) he has to pace you for something like 1/8th of a mile. (trust me on this I got pulled over for doing 81/55 this way)
2. the other way is tracking your speed between two known points. I bet you are going WTF? well it's true. there is a formula that can tell the cop if it only took you 2.3 secs to pass between two light poles then you where going 47mph.
3. a cop can pull you over for reckless driving even if he doesn't have radar, or is off duty.
well there is my 2c

Well, I believe you, Biker, but they can kiss my ***. The saying goes, "Innocent until PROVEN guilty." Not, "Thought to be guilty...well, he prbably is...well, he is a young male in a sports car..."
I have "evaded" several cops. But...here is what takes that little credit away from me: They didn't have their lights on. Every case, they make the mistake of trying to stalk me on a country road that I know like the back of my hand.
One instance, an unmarked cop in an early 90s
T-bird coupe. I just suspected he was a cop. (Found out 1 year later HE WAS. State Trooper.) He was stalking me on this country road that I liked to cruise. Maybe someone called him out on me, I don't know. Every curve or hill that blocked his view, I would floor it. Finally, getting 10-20 car lengths on him this way, I made it to the highway. I could hear an engine in the distance and I swung the 89 Corsica out on the highway full throttle. My little 2.8L was screaming and I was doing about 80 when I saw him pull out onto the highway in the distance. He got a little crooked when he did. And kind of cut someone off. I cannot imagine why he didn't flash his lights. Must have been broken or something. Anyway, I kept it moving, went over a hill, around a slight curve, blinked of the lights and whipped off onto another road, turning the lights back on after a 1/4 mile or so. I saw him fly by on the highway. His brake lights came on, but he was going too fast and I guess he gave up. I mean, think about it, how was he going to get me to stop? Obviously he was having several difficulties. By the way, it wasn't exactly night. It was like something between waning daylight and evening. You could still see ok without lights, bu t barely. There's a few things I shouldn't have done in that occurance, but any non-pro-cop move that I made does not weigh very heavily on my conscience.

By the way, police around here...cannot drive at all. I mean they are bad. Most anyway. One...don't know if he is city or county...is a street racer. He would be one to fear. He knows things.

Yeah here is mass all they have to do is guess. Some pase, most use radar/laser. But one time after a football game at my high school, and i was pissed. I had a jeep cherokee back then with a busted exhaust pipe. It sounded like flowmaster on steroids. Anyway there was this cop in a cruiser at the front of the school he was outside his car talking to the coaches. I just punched it getting out of the parking lot. My jeep had no acceleration so it sounded like it was going faster than it really was. The cop jumps in his car and follows me. I get stuck behind the cheerleaders bus so i cant go fast to get away from the cop. The bastard pulls me over runs my plates, holds me for atleast 30 min, talking to dispatch. I am in my jeep still in partial foot ball pads. I take off my seat belt to get my registration. the cop starts giving me **** like i was going 30mph over the speed limit etc. The street said 15 i went 30 max. He said how i was going to lose my lisence etc. Finally i just told him that my dad was a cop. He still gave me a ticket but it was for the seatbelt. But what I would like to know has anybody called a Cop a PIG! And gotten away with it. And yes if you do run from the cops they will catch you.

not intirely true, these guys can drive (montana highway patrol)
and they like to use the radio

city cops would be easier but not very

they also dont give a f*ck most fo the time and let you go on the interstate:lala: so its not always that bad

i had one time where i think it was a cop but im not sure, theres this very windy narrow road that i like to cruise at night, well one time after doing this run every night for a week at the same time this car followed me through the road, falling back at the corners, and then gaining in the straights, but never getting close enough to see if it was a cop

well after getting off the road hes still behind me, so i take a very interesting rout home, lots of doulbling back, and hauling @$$ between every turn, well he stays behind me the best that he can, wich aint that bad, bout a block behind me

since hes hangin on me i drove by my house and hit the automatic garage opener(hidden garage door you cant see unless you look behind you)
and keep driving, i go around a block or to with him about a block behind me and then go by my house, he hadnt turned the corner yet so i ducked into the garage and killed the lights

never heard anything else about it, so it worked

funny this thread came up, i just did 2 days ago, i was going to school and i had to go down this wet as hell road, then yeild and may a sharp right turn to get to the road to my school, well i had a friend in the car with me and he wanted me to fish tail it, so i slow down, no cars at all, i nail it around the corner, and decide since there are no cars to turn it into a brodie, i do a few then head up the road to my school, i straiten her out the best i could, still a little sideways, and a cop is on my ***. i just say "****..." i pull over, leave my car running and have my subs going, he walks up and its my freaking cousen, he said he was sitting at the top of the hill i came down and thought that i might do somethign like that, so he gives me soem **** and says hold on a sec while he calls my dad.

i say **** it and drop it into drive and nail it. finally get traction and mash up the road to my school, drift left into the school driveway, then throw it back to the right to make it into the student parking lot, go to the very back where the auto shop is, turn off my car and get out, lock it up and go into class.

well about 20 minutes later the school security gard somees in and points to me, my cousen walks in with 3 other officers and starts to read me my rights in class. put my in handcuffs, and walks my out of the room, get into the hall way sn they turn me around and start laughing their asses off. they were like "you should have seen that OH **** look on your face when we came in" they took the cuffs off and told me to go back to class. needless to say i was a little pissed at him. freakign gave me a gad dam heartattack.

dam family jokes.

Run away from the cops - this is Grand Theft Auto here. Evading the cops however is a different story too- such as ducking down an alley into a garage when a cop flashes it's lights at you. You always have a better chance if you are in a place where you are veeeerrry familiar with the roads.

Sounds like a really bad idea - I don't think you need another reason for cops to eyeball your car for something to bust you on.

I ran from the cops once but it was an accident. At the time it happened I didn't know it was a cop behind me. A friend of mine wanted to race back to his house after a highschool basketball game last year. I said okay and got the jump out of the parking lot, squeeling my tires as I leave. We were some of the very last people to leave and the cop that was the security gaurd was leaving at the same time. I just saw headlights pull out behind me and follow me about 2 miles down a two lane highway into town at about 105 MPH. I passed a few cars on the way to town and the headlights follow me, about 6-7 car lengths behind. I get into town and the lights go down a different street and I assume my friend is taking a different way tryin to beat me. I get to his house first and wait about 5 min before my friend shows up. I about shat my pants when he told me how the cop had cut him off pulling out of the parking lot and followed me. I still don't know why he never turned on his lights or pulled me over. About 1 week later a rent-a-cop I worked with at a pizza place said she had heard about a guy that followed an IROC-Z into town but just didn't pull him over. She said that the particular cop has a 1990 z28 and was probably just followin me for the hell of it. I haven't run from a cop form that day on. I just think of what my parents would do to me.

This crazy fool i knew from Kragen had a '90 L98 IROC with 3.42's and a full exhaust. Anyway he goes to sideshows and street races. Well they were having a bunch of street racing down at the train tracks near the chevron refinery in Richmond (ghetto). They got rolled on but he cut his lights and just bounced. There were so many people there he didn't get chased very bad and was able to shake the po, but he lost the 4th in his tranny when he hit the freeway.

Ive never run from a cop, but have outrun many suspicious vehicles on back roads (no way they could catch me on those roads between superior handiling and large engine.) I doubt I would run if I did something really dumb and was seen, Id hope the cop would give me a break for just giving up.

As for afraid of parents, I know for a fact my father has done it. LIke when I get lectured from going from Syracuse to NW CT in 4 hours. My father made it to Rochester in 4 hrs from NW CT. On a bike nonetheless. Amazing how the stupid stuff hes done gets me out of getting in trouble for stupid stuff I've done.

I sorta did this once. I was driving my friends G92 iroc, because he got his license suspended, and i was going about 10-15 over on a pretty busy street. He saw a cop pass, so I looked back and saw him pull a u turn. I looked down at the speedo to see how fast i was going, and I couldn't see anything....I realized I had the headlights off, and it was probably about 10 PM. There was an opening in traffic, so I jumped into the turning lane and cut down a side street. We had 2 girls in a car behind us, so they followed. I wasn't goin too fast, because I knew the girls would follow, and the cop would eb able to follow them, but I was taking every turn i could. I wasn't really familar with the streets, and I turned onto a dead end street. I parked and the girls parked behind me and I jumped out and told them really quickly to pretend like we were going to the house we were parked in front of. The cop pulled up and said something along the lines of "this isn't your personal racetrack....SLOW DOWN!" He let me go without a ticket or anything, probably thought i didn't know he was following.

Cops CAN give you a ticket for speeding without radar...it happened to me.

My friends 87 rs was stolen and later that day we saw it in a high speed chase on TV. It was estimated he was doing 140mph, the cops couldn't catch him, they had to lay down stop sticks. All 4 tires were flat but the guy kept driving and screwed the entire frame of the car. Afterwards, a cop told my friend(owner of the car) "that car is FAST" . His car had the L98 vette motor in it. What his car didn't have was INSURANCE.

Well... kinda, by my house is a 35mph road that goes behind a dam and about 4 nice 30 to 60 degree turns on it... Its the only place that i can ever open up the old trans am good on... one day in my '86 t/a lg4 auto... was only going about 55 compared to the 70 that it takes to get the tires squealing and of course an umarked crown vic go by in the other lane-it kinda escaped me that the new ones have painted grills and i didn't make it out until about the time that a guy in black points at me from behind the dash lights and steering wheel. Anyway by the time i thought to look back to see if his lights were on, I was already hitting another corner so i took a turn into a neighborhood after this and didn't see him again.

Now riding in my friend's 95 integra GSR... it was a little more obvious. We had just been talking to this guy in a late 80's prelude 2.0 with a homemade turbo kit (PVC pipe RULES ) and we just wanted to get an idea how fast it was so they both opened it up to about 55 on a 35 road from the stop light and just as they let off an oncoming cop pops up over the slight curve of the hill and hits his lights. My friend quickly takes a right and goes about 40 down a back road. The prelude goes straight and the cop must have made a U turn cause he caught up pretty quick. So my friend pulls over and the two cars in front of us pull over too after going maybe 1/8 of a mile. The cop talks to the two car in front of us a dark green mustang, and another red mustang (neither looked like gt's). My friend plays dumb and the cop must have decided that he pulled over the wrong people, so my friend got off the hook. :lala: :lala:

if u ask me its pretty stupid idea trying to
run from a cop...

u were just going to get a speeding ticket
and if u decide to run....they might slap like
4-5 tickets on you and u get to ride in the back
of the police car......embarasssing if u ask me

lots of people on motorcycles think they
can outrun the cops....these days they can
track u down..no matter what...most've the cop
cars have video camera's and stuff....

I've just been reminded of a couple of "Evading the Police" stories I've been told.
1--
Two of my uncles were in the 1969 Plymouth GTX that one of them used to own. They were going a little over the speed limit on this country road when a cop passed, going th opposite direction. As he passed, he pointed at them and reached for his lights.
The younger one of them, who was driving, was terrified. Then his older brother said, "Floor it."
The 440 Magnum was howling. Sqealing around curves and hitting a claimed 120 mph. Needles to say that cop could take his little "G0D complex" and go home and cry.
2--
My uncle, the younger one in the last story, was driving his 72 Challenger. The 318 wasn't running very good, but for some reason a cop came out of a hiding place after him.
He floored it and cut off on a gravel road, throwing dust, dirt, and rocks everywhere. Knowing that his car wasn't in any kind of shape to outrun a police car, he saw a farm and cut off into the driveway, blinking off the lights as he hid behind a barn. The farmer was standing right there too. But the cop goes flying by. When he got out of site, my uncle tore back out and went home.
Ahhh, the good ol' days.
