86 Trans am or S-10
One of my buddies always likes to talke smack to me about my car and his truck. I am kind of afraid to race him on the street though and he always wants to race for money. I live in a crowded area so I don't want to risk it. He has a 2001 S-10 Xtreme with the extended cab. All he has for mods is a Air-ade intake. I have a 86 T/A with the mods listed below and plus a brand new 2400 stall and shift kit. Who is more likely to win?
eeeeeeeeeeee
I don't know man, the 86 has the peanut cam and the 4.3's run mid 15's and you are probably in the high to mid 15's so watch out....I say you by a little or him by a little, who ever gets the best holeshot is most likely the winner....AARON
My best time without my new coil and trans is 15.6.(not consistent though.) Him on the other hand, his best time was 16.0, but his mph was higher. Anyways im just curious.
I say you, but only if you get a decent launch. What gears do you have? If you have 2.73s, then he may have a better chance off the line. But going by the track times, just do whatever it takes to run that 15.6 again and you got him beat.

wow 16.0 on an s-10....lol Well I always pulled on the xtremes in my S10 anyways
I have the S-10 SS with a long list of mods. Anyways I should be a low 14 hoping for low 12s/high 11s in the fall/winter 04 after motor swap/turbo is done on my 98. I say you should take him since I will root for you. But let's find out and post the outcome.

yup...
the S10 Xtremes have nothing on the S10 SS Motors, I had one in my 4 Door 94 Blazer, the Central Port Injection 4.3 H.O., I had a 40 Series Flowmaster cut off, no cat, home made CAI w/ K&N, freshened up heads and a Zexel Torsen 3.42 LSD with 275's out back on 15in rims and I ran a 15.4...the new S10's are overrated.....AARON

yea the SS motors were much faster than these motors in the extremes, don't forget to add about 400-500 pounds just for extended cab, oh another 150 if he has a stepside bed too. So having a short cab, short bed, flareside(no wheel tubs on the outside) helps a lot.
I am rooting for the thirdgen on this.
DON'T forget that hooking up on these trucks is total luck since the backs are light. A good launch will be key to his winning.

He has wider tires on there also to help with his traction. I raced him one time from 30mph to 70mph and I was pulling on him and he claimed that it was because his tailgate was up. Now he has a bed cover and claims that it helps with resistence. He wants to bet money, but I don't know if I should.

Oh...those Vortecs are sweet engines, man. (after the glitch was worked out.) They sound sweet too with the right exhaust.

great looking little truck.....too bad it doesnt have a v8
I used to have a 91 s-10 with a 4.3 in it.It wasn't the vortec though. It was rebuilt and pretty moded.I acctually took down a auto 5.0 lx mustang with it.
It had a rebuilt 4.3 with an edelbrock cam and matching chip, edelbrock tes headers, edelbrock intake with a 5.7 tbi.It ran pretty dang good.It had a 700r4 that had just been rebuilt.I don't kn ow what the guy did but when I put the new motor in it.It would bark the tires at 45 mph.The speed limit through my town is 35.It was pretty cool to be cruisin along next to a camaro or stang or even a ***** punch it and break the tires loose. They would always look at me real weird.
*** I miss that truck.I found another one.All I have to do is put a 2.8 in a third gen camaro out of the s-10 and then put my 4.3 in it.Except it is a 5 speed.
And I had a cover on my bed to.And 383 is right.Trucks have better aerodynamics with the tailgate up.I couldn't really tell a difference other than I got better traction with the cover on.

Hey now.....the 4.3 L motors aren't all slow.....you can't say that
I am running low 14s, my friend is at 11.86 in his S10(75 shot) and the guy that will be doing my motor work next year is in the 9s off his motor.
Can't help it that some cars come from the factory slow.....kinda like some thirdgens did. But that's just a base point to start modding from anyways.

ROFLMAO, I used to own one, lol, u got a TPI car? U'll beat him. I had a Red 99 Extreme 5-Speed, extended cab with the third door, tunnel cover and all. The Truck govern's out at 100mph. From a stop i could beat my friends 96 Auto Z24 barly, lost to a friggin grand am, took him from the jump but thats about it. Took my brothers LG4 86 Iroc off the jump, but he flew right by me after third gear. Was neck and neck with a m8's Accord. Great low end power, first and second you would thing u had a v8, could get rubber into third, but died after that.
