I was wondering if my 82 crossfire T/A (no smog, has headers and 3'' single exh.) has a chance at anything on the street.

Well I had the same problem with my 1982 Camaro with the Lu5 crossfire 305. It was slow. The best thing in the world that happened to me was the day it blew up finally. Now i have a 350 outta a 87 transam. Although I still wanted the car to be as original as possible I put the crossfire back on it. Now my car is 10x faster and ill race about anything that pipes me.

Tire Spin doesn't win races, My Lawnmower can spin it's tires for hours but I know that it's not fast.

Also the dual TBI set-up is good for low-end torque but that's about it.

If you don't want to know the truth don't ask for it!!!!!!!!! CFI cars are garbage!!! sorry but they are.

Later, Garrett

You could always have a 1981 Turbo Trans-AM with that crappy turbo 301.

Your faster than that guy is.

Spinning tires doesn't equal power. It means you have bald tires or a peg leg with decent gears. If you have a car that is a stick it's real easy to do in first gear.

Look you have an older car. The same as the rest of us. The fact is earlier smog cars from the early 1970's through to the early part of the 80's especially are slow and not well equipped to make power. They can't compete with newer designs. There is however alot of "potential" power afterall we are talking about Chevy small block engines which is one of the most time honored and proven designs in the world. Early TA's and Camaros were about maintaining style and handling in an otherwise uninteresting period in automotive history.

For example none of our cars except the 1989 Turbo TA and the 1991-1992 Firehawk can remotely keep up with a LT1 or LS1 based F-body. Why? Newer technology makes more horsepower with lower emissions. It is as simple as that.

I bought my 1987 TA not because I would have an instant path to power, but because with an engine swap and or power adder combined with a bit of work I could get what I want. It's just not an out of the box solution.

I like the look and feel of a thirdgen car. More than most anything on the road. I have one because it has potential. Style. And it's not a Honda with a wing nor a C5 vette or alot of common things I find on the road. If you were looking for something more powerful you should have gotten something already modded to a degree or a newer thirdgen than a 1982.

Let me ask you this. Do you like your car other than the lack of power? Are you willing to do what it takes and spend the time to get it where you want it to be? If the answer to the above is no than you should sell your car and get something more to your liking. Just my advice and my $0.02. Take it for what it is worth.
