1987 K5 vs. 1982 or 1983 CFI camaro Z28. the k5 has got a 350 stick, tbi , 3:73 rear, chip ,headers and 2.5 inch pipes all the way back and the camaro is all stock with a auto. i know the camaro is alot lighter but just whated to know how close it would be. it would be from a stop up to about 80 or 90. thanx

I agree with BIGE. Cross fire injection sucked hardcore. I would look for the K5 to win. Why would they even put the camaro name on a cross fire injection system, or corvette for that matter?
yes, CFI blows big time... TPI isnt that good, but at least you have a massive torque spike to at least give you a good head start. The truck has a very good chance of a win here, but one missed shift and of course its all over. but doesnt cfi look pretty?

My 83 that was VERY out of tune ran 16.8, so your initial guesses here aren't bad.
Once we added headers, 3" exhaust and a new coil, cap & wires, the time dropped to 15.75
Porting the manifold and a higher stall took it to 15.4, although i didn't get many runs in - it was also close to 90 degrees that night with very high humidity, so I think it would have gone a bit lower.
His car may look stock, but there are a few items you couldn't see - like a ported manifold, higher pressure fuel pump, and a higher stall... he could be in the high 15s with those...
IMO, the main thing to look for would be exhaust mods - the manifolds and exhaust piping were HORRIBLE on those years.
Oh, and not to feed a "why does cfi suck" discussion - but guys - cfi is just like the other systems here - you learn it, modify it properly, make educated upgrades to your engine, and poof, more power. Yes, you can argue that one system is better than another - but it doesn't really deserve the bashing that it gets.
If I wanted to bash something on the car, it would be the 1.72 valves, the wimpy cam, and the amazingly restrictive exhaust system. By the end of the month though, those problems will all be gone
kamaroirock - if you need more info, let me know

What I find funny though, is that everyone says CFI sucks purely on its reputation, simply cuz the hood flaps open in rain and drown the motor with water, which is supposedly the whole reason its nicknamed Ceasefire Injection - because it literally, Ceases to fire! But I've seen TPI motors with low mounted cold air induction systems that drive through flooded roads die too - but its hard to come up with a clever name for a flooded TPI
Like chevyhacker said, the exhaust is terrible, theres literally 90 degree bends and 2 tiny crappy mufflers at the back, I think a 1 second gain from an exhaust and tune up is pretty damn good for the oh so hated crossfire's.
And its all true folks, I was there to help bolt on the intake, I was there to cheer on his 15.4, I was there for the rear end swap, and I'm gonna be there when he puts them nice new heads with them nice shiny valves on with that new cam he's talkin about
We can get a crossfire into the 13's yet!! Now wouldnt that be some ****?
Up until I met chevyhacker I thought crossfire sucked - now I just tell him to change to carb cuz its funny :P
EDIT: Please excuse any typos, FedEx woke me up n I'm still kinda hazy.

crossfire got it's bad name from the water down the TB problem. we have working chevyhacker's 305CFI to see just what it can do. ever see the inside of a CFI intake? it's basically a cross between TPI and TBI. never thought i'd see a 305 crossfire do any better than 16's but it's there. and when we are done with it. it'll be a high 13 sec 305CFI. here's the pics of the intake manifold we ported. which provided a .3 gain on the car. http://www.technovelocity.com/chevyh...rt_polish.html
