'99 SS goes down...hard

My buddy's SS is an m6 with a lid and CAI, I was in the '88. We ran from a dead stop. I immediately jumped him off the line and kept pulling. By 90 I had him by about 4 cars. I let off and held my speed, he stayed in it. I let him pull up to my rear bumper before stomping on it again. He pulled up to my door before I matched his speed but after that he started to faded back and by 115 I had about a car on him.

I was pretty confident that I could beat him 'cause as you guys might've guessed, he can't drive for ****(he knows this too). I was surprised that I was able to pull away from him at higher speeds though.

Good kill. Your times for the 88 are about what my 2000 Z28 ran as stock as I could get it. (13.2 @ 106 mph)

Get the streamers ready! I have taken an LS1 C5 at the track with my AOD. I know for a fact the guy could not drive as he ranged from 13.8-17.1 as far as times go. But I did beat him 3 out of 4 times, and that felt good!

Yeah thanks guys, that brings me to grand total of four LS1 kills with this car. All have been basically stock though.

I'm not sure why I pulled him up top. This car has decent top end but with only 105-106 traps its not really something to brag about.

Yeah, my dads car traps 110 on the ET Streets (which I have been told should see 111+ on street radials) and easily walks bolt on LS1s from a roll. Even 106 could take care of a stock one or at least give it a good run!

WHATEVER!!! LS1s CAN'T LOSE!

:lala: Good kill LS1s don't get moving at all until higher rpms.. so unless they are really setup to launch, they are dead meat until they get rolling a little bit.

for the 15 mins on backroads that I got to drive a '02 Z06....let me just say that there is no car on earth like it. So smooth, so calm, then you romp it. 405 hp on tap, pulls in any gear from any speed. I wanted to shoot my pops when he traded it in for an Escalade....

It makes me feel good too when I beat Z06's and other cars of the LS-1 / LS-6 variety! But, it's pretty damn sad when you think about it, because those cars are STOCK or close to it and they are heavy!

Just a thought!

It probably is over 400 hp at the crank but it makes ALOT more torque!

I don't think their as fast as people think.. my camaro had 370rwhp which is higher than all Z06's dyno that I've seen. I was dead even with one Z06 the last time I went to the track.. Honestly, I didn't think my car was all that fast, could have been that I got used to the speed, but just wasn't as earth shattering (when I got the mods installed to go from 315 stock hp to 370rwhp) as people led me to believe.

1bad91Z, I know you've beating a z06 from a dig, but have you raced one from a 60+ roll. If the vette driver can drive, I think you'd have a real close race. Then again maybe not, but I don't think you'd walk one at all up to 160mph.

wait till next gen.. C6 brings many goodies to the table. When you compare your modded camaro to a stock z06 and saying its slow... there is just something wrong there. With enuff head and cam, thoes things can be pushing out 460 at the wheels. Ive seen it with my own two eyes. Look for an article in GMHTP soon about the baddest LS1/6. LS1/6 and the next gen (Gen IV or "LS2") are going to be bad a$$. 430hp in a base vette that weights 300lbs less then the present c5's. Id like to see you talking about how "godly" the Z06's are in 2 years.

Like I just said,

Where did I say anything about corvettes in general? I also did not say that they will never be fast. I was implying 'fast' is relative. My car is AS fast as most Z06s, and I honestly don't think it's all that quick.

When I got my car I thought it was damn fast.. then I installed the baby cam and exhaust, which made 370rwhp. I thought that was quick for a while, but got used to it and it really wasn't all that mind-bending after a while. I'm now getting a car that will run 11s. I'm sure sooner or later I'll get used to that. To me, a 13sec car isn't fast.. it's pretty quick for a street car and can get around in traffic without trouble for the most part. A really fast street car, to me, can run 10s. With that in mind, is it wrong of me to say Z06s aren't 'godlike'?

And with 'enuff' heads and cam, what V8 can't put 460 to the wheels? Now that I think about it, what V8 can't put out more than 500rwhp with 'enuff' heads and cam? My point is don't go around talking about the ls1/6 like it is the motor to end all motors.. I've owned one, modded it, and raced it against many different cars so I have a fair idea of how it stacks up..

Your times are very close to mine!

I raced an '01 SS at the track this summer twice in the same day. The first time, he ran a 13.883 @ 100.23 to my 13.186 @ 107.53. The second time he ran a 13.671 @ 101.83 to my 13.041 @ 106.51. This all happened during time trials, so he didn't get a head start. I don't know how many car lengths I was ahead at the traps, but it was several. It's definately fun beating one of those bad boys.

I e-mailed both races (MPEG's) to the webmaster of this site but they haven't made it into the movies page. (hint, hint)

Doesn't a 2000-2002 SS run a 12.9 or 13 flat STOCK?

usually 13.2-13.4 with fair traction and experienced driver.. i ran 13.13@109 with excellent traction and awesome weather (40*). However, this doesn't mean every ls1 will run that every single time..

I never said Z06's were slow and believe me, they're nothing to sneeze at! 405 hp is still 405 hp !

Haven't raced one from a roll yet. It's hard to find a race with one. You have to first spot one, then make sure the road and traffic is acceptable to race and then try to get the owner to race. That red '02 that I raced gave me a pretty decent run for the money!

I dont like to push my car past 120 - 130 for many reasons. 1st, I have the stock steel driveshaft which needs to go! I still need to do more suspension mods to the car (springs, sub-frames, LCA's, etc...) And, 160mph on the street isn't to darn safe! I've only pushed the car that fast once late at night on a long, traffic free highway. Thats when you realize quick that you need ALL the suspension goodies before you do that again!

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I couldn't ever get a c5 to race let alone a z06, so I'd have to say that's still got to be about the best kill you could have. Beating a viper would probably be what I would like to do most. Of course I need a car that's completely badass and of course it'd have to run.

No Prob ! Yea, unless you're pushing 400 - 450 HP, you'd want to race any LS-1 / 6 car from a dead stop. Built TPI motors will usually get the jump on them off the line, cause LS motors are mid - high rpm motors.

Better be packing a big lunch before you go hunting Vipers!

I don't mean to keep down playing ls1 cars, but if they aren't launched above 3k rpms and kept there until they get rolling, a torque motor (TPI) is just going to eat its lunch.. Then again, I never felt like slipping my clutch too much or taking a chance at breaking the rear end with slicks, so take it for what it's worth.

Never said I raced anyone while doing 160 and if you can "read", my prior to last post states:
