89 T/A vs 99 mustang gt

Hi all my nephew just bought a 1999 Mustang gt 5 speed with a k+n being the only mod to the car. Im thinking it would be a good race between me and him, but he might have a slight edge on me.Here is what ive got. I have a 1989 Pontiac Trans Am with a 350 gm goodwrench tpi engine.I have the auto tranny with the stock rear end which im guessing is the 2.73 rear.My mods are k+n filter, airfoil, flowtec headers and flowmaster muffler.I also just got fresh tuneup for my car a couple of months ago.My engine has about 45000miles on it. The stang has about 41000miles on it. I think his car might be a bit faster being he has the 5 speed and has 260hp. Here in Denver Colo were going up to bandeomere speedway soon to see who is faster. So do you think i can match him with my minor mods?Talk to yas later

I don't know. Don't over or under estimate a new DOHC 4.6 GT.

There are some guys over on www.stang.net doing terrible with them. Some guys barely run 14.9s with them. While others run low low low 14s or even 13.90s with perfect weather and a good driver.

How old is your nephew?

go get some 3.42 gears and dont tell anyways then race

the DOHC ones are bad a$$ (mach 1, cobra) but the SOHC GT's suck goat ****. They are low 14 sec to high 13's stock. You figure an LT1 car can run high 13's to low 14's with 15more hp. Depending on how you can drive, and what that engine can do... you just might pull it off...
p.s. get rid of the flowcrap headers... they are too small for a 305, more more then a 350 crate motor.

What are the cam specs on a "350 gm goodwrench tpi engine". If it's just a goodwrench 350 chucked under TPI it may not even match stock 350 TPI power numbers, I believe the factory goodwrench 350 has a smaller cam. If it's not, assuming it is at least equal to the factory L98 cam, with the exhaust mods and such I think you have a real good shot. Do you have the 350 sized fuel injectors and computer tuning and such? You don't mention if the car originally had a 350 or not...

True flowtechs may not be the best but they'll beat the stock manifolds, add in the cat-back, minor/cheap intake mods, and I think you have a real chance... Practice up on launching your car and don't blow the launch, eat this stangs lunch off the line and I bet you can take him in the 1/4... Times are going to suck *** up at that altitude though...

Try porting your plenum (knock down the EGR shroud walls right behind the openings behind the throttle body) and throw a quarter in the top of the fuel pressure regulator to bump fuel pressure a few psi. Noticeable gain from that pair of free mods. Might make the difference...

The car originally had the 305tpi engine. It is just a stock gm goodwrench 350.It has the 305 injectors in it. A few years ago i had a 89 iroc with the 350 in it and this engine seems a bit faster than the l98 i had.
