91 GTA TPI vs. 03 V6 Eclipse

I am wanting to race a boy around my town, he has an 03 V6 Eclipse with CAI being the only mod, mine is a 305 tpi w/ custom CAI. Who has this one? Thanks!

Dude I dont know where you heard that from but a guy that I had auto tech with in high school had a 5-speed with just a cat-back and his ran a 15.2 I am pretty sure hes got you but it could be close , get some headers and an exhuast system and you should easily take him.

I didnt know a 15.5 made you a dog, I am not saying thats fast, but thats pretty good for any N/A jap car, thats what most stock auto 305 tpis run , so you both have CAI's Like I said it will be close.

have beaten many... 5spds, auto stick, auto's... Gt's, RS's... dont matter... verts, hard tops... with rims, with out rims... exhaust, CAI, wire looms covers, street glow's... the GT is about as good as the RSX-S. Both said they can be fast, but have yet to see any of them beat me.

Looks to me to be very close. If you have a '91 GTA it's probably an auto ( blah!). Secondly, the GTA is heavy and feels like a tank( believe me I had one and unloaded it!). Thirdly the 305 with just a CAI doesn't impress me. Again, it'll be close if he has a 5 speed. If he's got an auto tranny you may nudge him out. The better driver will probably pull it out.

Full exhaust, screw the cat or put a high flow one on, and a little 50 shot.

I remember magazine racing was lame. I know them going high 14s with good tires and good drivers so don't be surprised if he beats you. they are comparable in speed to the old turbo DSMs stock for stock, they just don't have the response a turbo 4 has to mods.

I have yet to be impressed by any DSM of any year or model, at the track or on the strip it doesn't matter.

Hell last night i was driving my girlfriends '97 Eagle Talon (4cyl NA)... Bone stock with a 5 speed.. not a race car by any means, but I ended up getting caught at a light with a '02-'03 V6 Eclipse that sounded like an auto. Anyway of course he beat me, but only by about a carlength at 65mph. If I woulda been in my car it would have been pathetic, not even worth wasting gas on in my opinion.

Now I know there are some very fast DSM's out there, just none that i've seen so far.

Oh BTW I ran another '91 Z28 (305 auto) at the track and it ran like a 9.7 so I definetly think it may possibly be close but you should have him.

Dave

One of my good friends has an 03 eclipse 5 spd stick. he ran a 15.3 from what I personally saw, and that was with his 18 inch rims. He says he once ran a 14.8 with his smaller rims, which is somewhat believable. He had cold air and a muffler but thats it. It really should be a close race. If the guys not an excellent shifter you will get him but if he can drive, sorry to say but your gonna loose by a hair. There not slow, it also depends if u only race to about 60 u should have him but hell start catching up after he shifts into 3rd around 65-70. Keep it short and sweet, you will be safer.Torque I wouldn't throw any $ down unless he can't shift. Good luck let us know who wins.

I have 91' GTA LB9 w/700r4 (15.20@90). I raced a friend with a 03' Eclipse V6 5-speed. He has a CAI, exhaust, and a chip. My car was stock. He had me off the line (remember 5-speed) but but he never pulled on me from there. If me or you had a m5 we would get em. But now i have flows, K&N, TB bypass, a.i.r ,EGR, and cat delete, and a open stat. I raced him again (engine temp was 135*) and i was spinning, he got me off the line again but i pulled on him after 15 mph and kept pulling. I give them credit for a v-6 but if its manual against manual then its up to the driver. now i also raced a 4 banger and hurt him.

when they tested the one from 2f2f it ran 15.5 so yea they kinda are dogs i'll give it to the gta through the 1/4 he may reel in him in if they keep going but the 1/4 should got to the gta as long as it running strong
I had the mag from when they tested them cars. And i remember the Lancer EVO (turbo 5-speed) a mid 13sec car running high 14's. Thats with alittle over 500 miles, so that tells you that them cars get driven harder than anyone can imagine and after filming they arent worth anything and the info tells us nothing. But the camaro (427 5speed-potentally 12sec car) was running a 13.7 w/street tires and was fastest of them all with the Supercharged S2000 in second.

not to jump of subject here... but i belive the yenko was the fastest out of the group? And that was a 427 4spd. The only reason they didnt include the yenko in the group, was because it wasnt r*ce probably. I remember the review some import mag gave it.... i wanted to kill every editor that had a say in that mag.

You know, weird things happen at tracks. Here is what I saw friday. If we ONLY go by what we see at tracks, then here is what I would go by.

S2000 run high 16's
1st gen camaro run 17's
Friend's mostly stock Focus run 16.1
Riced out accord run 19.1
Civic running 13.3
Stock 350 TPI run 14.6's
Friend's Steeda Focus running 17's all night long
Friend's accord run 17.5
4cylinder fox stang hit 19.1's all night. (Had to be a bracket racer)
I ran 15.9 with a modded ****ing 350 (bad tuning and torque converter)
VR4 AWD Turbo "GTO" running mid 15's
Guy claimed to have a stock 350 TPI running 12.8's

Some cars are freaks, some are modded and the people just claim they are stock, others are dogs. Its pretty hard to go by what goes on at a track.

I've yet to see a stock N/A Eclipse break into the 14's and there are quite a few there on the weekends

I go to the track damn near every Friday night. They are slow, always will be slow..give me the old turbo 4 banger any day of the week...
