If by a few tweaks you mean full exhaust and few other bolt ons. I wouldn't say you would smoke it You need 35 more HP and about 10 more ftlbs to match his power. You may win after some mods but you will not smoke it by any means.

If you have an LG4, I believe they only have a measly 145hp or so. You'll need alot more to even come close to that car. Sorry but you'll have to put up with his bragging and whining for a while. You can start with the typical tuneup and full exhaust but it'll still be really close.

Yea, he's a lot heavier than you, but he has the power advantage. I'd put your 1/4 mile at mid to low 16 and his at mid to high 15. Go from a stop and let your launch advantage help you. That supercharger is going to be your problem though...

) then it's a T-5. And on to the race with the SSei, if you got around a $1000 for mods, then yes that much tweaking will win you the race.

ok, now lets not get hasty
It does not even remotly take 1000 in mods to kill an SSEi
lets be realistic, there are cheap parts for our cars running around all over
You need to figure out your trans...first off
All you need is a cam..150 bucks
Headers...250 for a good pair
an ehxhaust an Y-pipe 350..again good stuff
You will thenn show him who is boss..the V-8
My 2 cents...do it and show him your tail lights

Don't forget the installation of all those parts though. Unless you do it yourself, you will see about $1000 for those mods. Cam installations are pricey, but I did mine in my buddy's driveway.

my friend has a bonne and its a little pudgy off the line but its got some pull and would of toasted my lg4. Heres a reference on how quick they are.
one night i was driving it for him and i saw this little prelude with a bucha people gathered around in a parking lot and i just pulled up and got em to race me. It was about dead even until we let off. Prelude seemed like a stock late 90's, maybe vtec
another race, this time him driving was against a 2000 or so maxima and it was dead even until the bonne shifted into 2nd at like 50mph and the maxima pulled away hard.
with a few mods im sure you could take him.

While the engine is out of the car definitely upgrade the cam, you will see a huge increase in power right there for cheap especially after you've gotten other supporting mods like a good exhaust.
If nothing else Summit and others sell a generic cam that specs out at around 204/214 dur @.050, lift around .420/.440 that comes in under a 100 bux. May be able to get the same cam with your rebuild kit if you haven't gotten one yet, seems like PAW offered kits with a cam list that had this same cam... I'm running that cam in my 86 305 TPI, you won't have any tuning problems or anything with it, stock valve springs can handle it (assuming they're not dead, I'd replace them for the rebuild, they're cheap) but it's a huge improvement over the stock peanut cam. That in conjunction with a good aftermarket intake (also $100ish) would be a good start. I'd go with a performer or performer RPM from Edelbrock...
You would also want headers ($350ish, Edelbrock TES) but if you can't afford all of these mods at once right now, do the cam/intake while the engine is out of the car IMO, easier that way. Then save up and get the headers, highflow cat, and catback all at once (buy all three items for a 305 TPI single cat car and you will get the better 3inch stuff instead of the LG4 replacement pieces that are smaller diameter...) You could get by with some of the budget headers that are floating around too being a 305 I would think...
You'd be choked by the exhaust, but I bet you could take out the Bonnie with the cam/intake upgrade alone, might be close though as it's hard to estimate how badly the puny stock exhaust would hold you back. After the cam/intake plus a good full exhaust you'll definitely dust it hardcore...
Check out this magazine buildup on a LG4:
www.dcpnet.org/stuff/305Buildup/page1.jpg change page number through 5 for the whole article. Notice with headers, tuning, etc and Performer RPM they were pushing 230hp. With a cam as well (larger than you would want, so take that into account) they made 269hp...

Regardless of your opinion regarding the value of the 305 try to express it in a nicer way in order to not discourage those newer to our hobby.
