alrighty admins, i have seen some of these posts becfore and dont remmeber where they put them into so i just decided to put it here becuase more moderated traffic.
well anyways. last night around 8:00PM, my step-dad and i were in the car, This 4th generation(93-97) v6 firebird pulls up next to me at the red light. Well they start to rev their engines and they have no muffler so it sounds like some r!ce rocket car. My step-dad being the speed demon that he is told me todo the same but first put it in neutral(i have an automatic), but i have a exhaust with the y pipe before the muffler, so my car sounded way more tuff. My step-dad being the racer/speed demon that he is told me when the light turns green floor it and hold the wheel tight. Well i saw the other poeples light turn yellow so i started to put the gass on and we were still standing still. The light turns green, it seemed like an eternity waiting for me to put my foot on the petal. But we got off at the same exact time, he obviously had a manual becuase he was reving his car while pareket while we were haveing to swtich to neutral. Well i got off the line same as he did, but it seemed like he let off the gas or something becase he was gone when i look to my side. My step-dad said keepu going dont give up. Weel at the next lihgt i waited for like 10-15 seconds before they showed up, the d00ds friend in the car was laughing at his friends becuase he lost to an older trans am. Then he gives me a thumbs up. Well it seemed like the guy wanted to drag again so yeah he revs the engine and so did i, just like before. I still get off the line fatser than him and woops his *** completely.
did them v6 firebirds have hery little power or was i really sopposed to loose. Cause i got an '86 Trans Am with the TPI. I really was lauhging my *** off at him at the second light because he lost to a 16 year old in a way older car. I mean i topped out at like 95mph in a 45mph lane.
Well after they turned off the road, my step-dad said, never tell your mom i let you do this ok, She'll freak. I still want some more, love the speed, speed is adicting.

all v6 f bodys are horribly slow. i wouldnt doubt in the least a new civic beating my 94 v6.
Member
lmao, well this thread will prolly be moved to the racing board, but here we go, the v6 4th gens are slow as ****, a v6 thirdgen could almost compare to em, but the 98+ models for camaro anyways, not sure bout the firebird, came out with the 3.8's which was slightly faster, nothing a tpi cant beat, unless they are souped up, but v6 camaros arent really good for racing anyways, not too strong at all, i think a 98+ may beat a 305 tbi tho, not tpi, not even close, nice kill
lmao thought i was the first one writin this, and i hit enter, and people already told ya the crap, oh well, just thought i'd say something, so people didnt htink i was stupid

I believe it was 1995 or 1996 that had the first 3.8s and they werent too bad. Definately could give a 305 TBI, or even a TPI a decent run. Nice kill...
Also if you have a real need for speed get to a track. I did when I was 16 and have not stopped for 2 years. Cant get enough and its safe and legal (nice for us younger guys).

well the track forme wont be very pleasing becuase these cars are pretty slow compared to what is fast today. Imean when people hear trans am they think speed but these are the fastest on the block no longer.

25thmustang, i have a 3.4 and driven a few 3.8's feels the same as my 3.4. it would lose to a 305 tbi, i know that it will. 3.4's were in a 93-95 camaros and firebirds. 96-02 were the 3.8's.
Supreme Member
A 3.4 is a 16 second car, the 3.8s were mid 15s. Plus the 3.8s take much better to mods...
Whats slow, I know on street nights, 12 second cars are fast around here (there are always the 9-11 second cars). I usually dont go on street nights, but on days with events.

well what does an 86 Trans Am 305 TPI, with an exhaust sytem with the y pipe before the muffler, and a few other small things(new air filter, high output HEI powercoil, and everything is synthetic oils) run?
I do spend quite a bit on that sythetic oil stuff. Engine oil is all synthetic and rear end it also and tranny fluid is synthetic. I used to wotrk at Autozone so i still got a big supply left. About 30 boxes with i think 16 in each box. And i got some rear end fluid still but no tranny, changed it about 2,500 miles ago.
i mean what could i run with oh yeah i got an automatic, so that might hurt me but still.

someone show me a car that DOES NOT have the y pipe before the muffler. id say its a mid 15 second car. theres no way a 3.8 does 15 though. a lt1 is a mid 14 second car. my 3.4 will runs stock like 16.9. the 3.8 is right there with it. both have few mods possible. both are slow. if u want fast get a lt1 z28 for like $500 more.
y pipe before the muffler meaning that the exhaust is only half muffled, as seen in the attachment. just a quick drawing i made in paint. See how it makes it sound loud but also adds some back pressure to the exhaust.
looks like the borla system...

I KNOW for a fact that the pre99 firebird V6 was SLOWWWW. I drove one a couple times (gotta fix an oil leak on a 97 tommorrow as a matter of fact), they have NO low end whatsoever. I'm gonna have my buds at the shop run it against my 2.8 tommorow (I raced one before, BLEW HIS FRICKIN DOORS OFF!!!!). The firebirds are weak. The 99-01 Camaros are pretty quick though (about 200 horses) they would be a better match for your 5.0

same motor in camaro and firebird! and kidrcth i think your motor isnt in your engine bay. might wanna get that fixed before u drive it.
ill go draw a pic of what i think u mean

heres what i think u mean
d00d you almost copies my drawing exactly except it was wrong still. Only one side of the dual tips i have is muffled. Which means that one side is directly from the catalitic converter. YOu dont understand what i'm trying to tell you but be the way you are, just know what i'm telling you and dont think about it too much.
except for one fact, i took my catalitic converter off 1 year ago because it went bad.

d00d my point is that isnt a y pipe. the y pipe connects the left manifold to the right.
thats a completley different y-pipe,a nd i'm not talking about it, are your remedial or something, let me highlight the area(a y-pipe) i'm tlaking about so you could understand.
Supreme Member
i know what u mean now. and did like 5 post ago. but saying that u have a y pipe before the muffler everyones gonna be like

and if your saying its not a y-pipe i'll prove it to you because in summits magaizne that just came out a few weeks ago they show that exact same exhaust system and they call it a y-pipe, i can't scan it for you today but i can take a digital picture of it.
just took the pic downloading it to my pc and be done in a sec
alright its now the attachment
the words read
"
dual tip system features Y-pipe before the muffler
with a removable exhaust tip, and uses inter-
changeable blokcoff plates to adjust noise and
performance levels. Systemn comes with four plates
ranging from solid (street legal through the muffler)
to open (straight).

Beware of the 1989 Trans Am GTA with the V6. I hear that car can move out pretty good. Allen

I had a 2001 fbird witha 3.8 and a 5 spd............that thing moved pretty good. It would deffinately beat on a tbi.....and give a 305 tpi a good run. They are not as slow as people think

To anyone who thinks a 3.8 will run 16.9s go to the track, they are mid 15s cars! The 3.4s are 16 second cars.
Junior Member
I ran a 15.2 in my friends 96 camaro (3.8 liter) They were rated at 200hp while the 3.4s I think were 170. The 93-95 was 3.4 and 96-02 was 3.8. California cars I think could be had with a 3.4 in 96 though.

man its cool, but this is the first time i've ever won an argument on a message board. usually it ends up them calling me an ideot even though i was right. I'm so happy, the other people just might not have wanted to admit defeat thats all. But its cool, my step-dad put that exhaust on the car about a year ago while he still owned it. He had been looking at that exhasut system for a while until he finnally ordered it from summit.Originally posted by 89cmrodriver

I think he's refering to the Turbo Trams Am wihch are fast as hell. But as far as these V6s ripping 305 TBIs its not true. The 3.8s are close cause I've beat some and lost to some its generally close and the 3.4s never beat my LO3...

Noone said ripping... that I saw but, they would definately give a TBI a run for its money, and stock vs stock I more likely than not would put my momey on the 3.8.Originally posted by Formula4Speed

What the mustang boy and the vette guy said is true, the 3.8's are mid to low 15 sec cars. They should beat TBI cars easily as most run high 15's-low 16's(at least the ones i see do). The 3.4 was a very weak motor and would probably get beat by a TBI/LG4 car. Remember, we are talking optimal driving. People could have a 5spd and miss a shift and totaly crap on themselves. There are modded 3.8's that run 12's with the help from the nitrous fairy.
and kidrcth, do you have the borola system, or a home made set up? Mostly when people talk about Y pipes, its the Y pipe connecting the manifolds together. The borola Y pipe is ment for you to but a larger "plate" with a hole in it for more exhaust gasses to escape before the muffler for more of a nice sound. And on another side note... you guys need to take some MSPaint classes, thats just horrible. hehehe.

Hi Gents
Yes, I was referring to the 1989GTA Turbo Trans Am V6. It will run in the upper 13's in stock form. With a few added goodies it is a good 12 second car. Allen

I thought they just called it a Turbo Trans Am, and lost the GTA portion. I heard the part about a V6 GTA and I was like, "HUH? Oh, must mean the TTA..."
they were making fun of you/him because he called it the "GTA with a v6."
it's simply the 89 "turbo trans am", completely different from a reg. trans am or a gta of the same year.
great to hear a kids first experience with racing. just keep it at the raceways for the most part until you're older and know your car better. going to the track and learning to launch/drive your car consistantly is what you get out of it, regardless if it is a mid-15 sec. car or what else is there.

ok after research and asking people that own the types of cars here is my results. a 95 LT1 ran 14.3 @98 mph. J's TA on this site with his LT1 in the 82 TA ran 13.5 with headers TB and MAF. a stock LS1 ran 13.3 stock with a 6 spd. another v6er agreed with me saying "maybe 16-17 seconds, couldnt even get out of its own way" ive been trying to find a website with times but so far havent found any. to add to it, tonight i drove my 94 camaro with a 3.4 and my 95 silverado truck will easily beat that car. (i know it will from a roll)

Yea I thought of that, but without hearing the turbo part I was confused.

A turboed one would have walked you good. Those were in the 14s if memory serves me right. You got lucky, just remember, at 16 if you keep up the racing you may not get lucky. Keep it safe first and foremost!Originally posted by JLP

kid "d00d" why did u post that u have herpes simplex type 1? what does that have to do with racing? Next might wanna watch calling races, that is in the rules (IIRC, u can get banned for it)

Those TT 300zx's are a force to be reckoned with. They have 280-300hp and 283 tq. With the mods you listed I'm pretty sure the one you raced wasn't a turbo. Nevertheless good kill!
