How much power will i need to give a 2003 Mustang GT a good run, even beet it? I know i'll need a new rear end but what kinda power torque are we talking here?

How much would this cost me to do?

Say he can drive an average 14.0 in the 1/4. Say you weigh 3500lbs. with you in the car. Using my desktop dyno, if everything was textbook you would need 300hp to run 13.89 @ 97. To be close you would only need 293hp to run a 14.0 @ 96.2.

This is 300 rwhp though, at the crank that would be pretty close to 360hp with an average of a 20% drivline loss through a 700r4.

you're gonna need headers,catback,all the usual cheap mods. And even then you're gonna fall short.

full exhaust, headers, hi-flow cat (or no cat) and a good aftermarket cat back

and $500 for a nitrous kit.

a 100hp should be able to take him NP.

You need about 260 to the wheels and some good driving and that should be it. Most LT1's M6's can take them and they put down around 260. I have yet to race one in mine but I will one day. But an above average mustang driver can get great times out of one. Some have seen mid 13's.

Correction....sorry about that but shifty is closer. That is 300hp at the crank. I thought 300rwhp was alittle much but i guess thats what i get for trusting a computer.

I take care of them with ease at about 235 rwhp (guessing). I think an Fbody weighing a little more, 255 rwhp!

Are the GT's the one with the black stripe on the bottom of the door?

Either thats a V6 or a Mach 1...

V6 = mid 15s

Mach 1 = mid 13s

Throw a mild cam in there, port the plenum, snag a set of headers, high flow cat, and a decent catback, and throw some 3.42s in the rear assuming you've got 2.73s currently and you should be able to keep on up with em, especially autos, may even beat a few if you have a strong running 305. My old 86 IROC with basically those mods was able to match/inch on more than one, probably autos though. I'd add a set of aftermarket runners and a base (or port the crap outta the stockers) if you want to consistently beat most of them... If you're porting it couldn't hurt to tickle the stock heads just a bit too...

Lotta work to still be relatively slow though, I'd think about an engine swap to a decent 350.

The 350...

If you got a 305 and want power....350's are cheap to purchase and speed parts extremely cheap. For about 2 grand you could walk em.
