I beat a new MACH 1

I raced a new MACH one yesterday with the T-5 in and I spun like crazy off the line( still learning how to drive it) but we were still even of the line. We were neck and neck like the whole time. Every time I would shift I would hear my tires burn for 1-2 seconds, then right after he would shift and his tires would chirp. We finally let off, to be honest I was disappointed cause I used to be able to take the SVT Cobras (03supercharged) with my auto. If I could eliminate the wheel spin thing I would have had him by more than just a door. It was fun though to finally have a "movie" close race. The guy was cool and we pulled over and he shook my hand and said good race man, your car is quick. He told/showed me that he had intake, off-road x-pipe, SLP loudmouth exhaust. He said it ran a 13.0 so I had to pull my record book out of the car and show him the 12.8 slip, and he nearly $h!t his shorts when I told him that was with an auto. This race taught me 3 things:
-I need to learn how to drive a 5 speed
-I DEFINATELY need a racing clutch
-I need some slicks

Yes
Yes
No

You will learn just by driving around. Pretty soon you will b egetting into an auto car and looking for that invisibale clutch.

A clutch would be good if you are using a stock unit. All that new power could be making mince meat out of the old one.

I would not run slicks with the T5. You will be doing another tranny swap as soon as you hook with that power. It may be T56 time.

OK no slicks then

How about drag radials? Mabe some "mild" 235/60-R15's?

A sticky tire will help a bunch especially with the 1/4 time. With that 110 mph you would be in the low 12s with a 1.6-1.7 60'. Just remember, GMs rears and T5s in those cars were very weak stock!

You would be on thin ice. These tranny's do not like traction and big power. Some have done it but it is not very smart. You worked hard to get that tranny in there, you would hate to have to replace it or take it out so soon because you blew it up.

My times with the T-5 are without cleaning up the tires or a burnout. Maybe if I did a good burn out on my 255 streets they wouldn't spin like I was on water.

Mach 1's are pretty underrated. Stock ones are dynoing 280-290 rwHP and 300rwTQ.

Evan Smith (a pro driver) got a 13.1 out of a Bone stock one.

I'm trying to find one to purchase. I have a love affair with the new Mach's and pretty much decided i need to own one

The supercharged '03 Cobra's are faster than the mach 1's.

I've put 6 - 7 car links on an '03 Cobra in a red light race to ~120.

But, the Mach 1's make the GT's look dirt slow, from what I've seen.

Yup the mach 1 is a dohc 32valver. My boss has one its pretty quick but id beat him every time up to about a hundred ten. then hed wind away from me (i was gettin stuck in the third gear, you know). I never raced him after I did my tranny and the vette servo and sht. (before the tree hit me) Well I know for sure he'd beat my Ford, but a 350 should be able to beat it as long as its breathing right and gets a little traction off the line
